If you didn’t know, Bitchat is basically a P2P messaging app that doesn’t go through the internet or any servers and is not susceptible to any government censorship or surveillance or demands since the messages are not stored in their servers. It uses Bluetooth with each device installed acting as a beacon forming a mesh network to relay messages across, wouldn’t have been useful unless two devices communicating with each other are close by or there’s a massive network of devices installed the app. But perfect for the protest situations where there’s a high density of people in an area and most social media and communication apps were banned or inaccessible (in the case of Nepal)
