Hello all.

1. Existing house with Plaster ceiling
2. Over time ( 8 years) can see the corners are cracking
3. I hate changing the down light as would get prick by the fiber glass

I would like to change it to some other ceiling. meaning to say:

1. the contractor will need to take down and dismantle the existing ceiling
2. Install new one.
Question:

what type of ceiling are there now in the market? I read it's quite common for PVC type these days. are they any good? will it last?

my house is roughly 1600-1800sqft. how much will it cost?

To prevent those corners crack due to the natural of expansion and contraction of material... if you are planning to do plain modern ceiling.. without those cornice/moldings...i would normally advise owner to use shadow gap alum. to all perimeter. Its a clean transition between wall and ceiling surface.
But.. need to find someone /worker who is patient enough to aligned those shadow gap channels properly...make sure your walls are within minimum slanting tolerance ya..not wavy if not will have issues installing the shadow gap.
