my parents house got the tmnet fiberhome HG6145F3 router which doesnt seem to have built in wireguard or openvpn.
they dont want to change router so im thinking of adding a 2nd router which would be able to add wireguard and openvpn support to be able to access home when away.

thinking of trying this travel router mango v2, anybody have any experience with this or perhaps another cheap alternative?

thanks

45 Mbps Wireguard performance? For that price?
Better you get a Raspberry Pi 4 and just setup Wireguard server.
Register and setup a DDNS at https://freedns.afraid.org/
Connect to your WG over IPv6 as I can safely assume your parent place has no public IPv4 address.

Also if you are buying a router, might as well you buy one that can replace the FiberHome. What's so good about that thing it has to stay?

Raspberry Pi 4 2GB + Openwrt + DDNS + Wireguard. Work fine to me.

Aside from performance, is there any reason not to use the popular stock isp routers years back, like tplink c1200 that have built-in open vpn server feature? Saw ppl selling it as low as rm10 on carousel nowadays.

I am using Friendlyelec R6S as main router, but no wifi.. My existing AX86U router has been reconfigured to operate in Wireless AP mode.

I've setup multiple openvpn server/client, wireguard, vlan822 to work with maxis voip, wol relay, zerotier with mdns (so each house can discover other house devices), notification email (for eg if certain device offline for more xx min)
