On which ground u suggest the fan header is installed reversely ?? There's always a distinguish side for the fan header to plug in ... there's no way that it could be plug upside down unless TS really got no idea how to plug a fan properly or reading the shape of both connectors ..

1st Did u plug the fan into the CPU fan header ?
2nd Did u by accident mount the fan header up side down (which not possible coz the fan won't even run at all)
3rd Does ur new fan comes with two or three wires ? ( Two wires type usually doesn't support speed sensor)
Check all three condition and see whether either one is the reason ..
