Thinking of planning a daytrip to Ipoh one of the coming weekends. To all the regulars who travel there from KL using the PLUS highway, I have a couple of questions:

1. Saturday vs Sunday - Which day typically sees lesser traffic, assuming it is a normal weekend (i.e. no festivities, school holidays, long weekend etc)
2. What's the best timing to leave Ipoh to avoid traffic entering KL - 1pm? 3pm? 5pm?

Thanks!

try changing pm to am. 1am 3am 5am. this is for normal sundays yea. tried to come back at 12pm and it's still standstill traffic until cameron highlands

source: personal experience. i'll never come back to KL on sunday

or... get your other trip partners to come to Ipoh via ETS. one designated sacrificial driver will take leave on Monday to drive the car back

It's a day trip, I just need a few hours.

So the best bet is leave KL on Saturday at 6.30am, and leave Ipoh by 1.30pm? Would that be the best? Or same timing but Sunday is better?

Regular weekend no need think too much la. Logic dictates everything. 6.30am start is good. Usually semenanjung people prefers drive midnight rather than early morning.

Coming back. Everyone also after lunch only come back la. So if that time. More cars. Doesn’t mean too Jam. As long as you think back time still within your plan ie reach time can straight to dinner before back. It’s okay. Else have earlier lunch lor. Coz you lunch time eat also big crowd la. No need say road.

Edit: day trip hor. Then come back time anytime la. Usually less ppl drive back on Saturday. Plus your mood also diff got Sunday to recover. Dinner first only come back also okay.

If daytrip, leave early on Sat morning. Preferably 6/630

Then depart back on Sat night.
sun afternoon usually heavy traffic at the usual choke points like Tapah, Sungkai

Granted.

But I’ve always enjoyed my leisurely train journey to Ipoh and just Grab anywhere. Beats driving.

sweat.gif "usually" ?

doesnt sound like you're a midnight driver.

all my outstation journeys have always started at around 2-4am, departing at 10pm might still have some traffic, but slow moving.

traffic is pretty much smooth all the way at the said time. that said, it doesnt work for everyone unless you booked the hotel one day earlier, or have relatives in the north/south. else you're just gonna have to waste few hours waiting for shops to open.

never understood why majority of the people rather drive in the morning/afternoon, wasting that extra 1-2 hours.

2-4am is midnight to me.
and yes, i specifically said semenanjung ppl dont like drive early morning but like to drive midnight.
my morning means 5-6am.
hence early morning also less traffic.
midnight sometimes ppl start late night will overflow to midnight, case in point, see those raya time. but that's not TS situation.

and the bolded is exactly some of the hassle. start 5am 6am after a sleep, reach there breakfast, some activity, check in, rest.
