or the small town in Alaska.

Perhaps he was really high when typing that. Or he drove underwater.

QUOTE
While the South Pole lies on a continental land mass, the North Pole is located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean amid waters that are almost permanently covered with constantly shifting sea ice.

QUOTE
The nearest land is usually said to be Kaffeklubben Island, off the northern coast of Greenland about 700 km (430 mi) away, though some perhaps semi-permanent gravel banks lie slightly closer. The nearest permanently inhabited place is Alert on Ellesmere Island, Canada, which is located 817 km (508 mi) from the Pole

they drove to the 1996 location of the magnetic north pole which is approx 78°35.7′N 104°11.9′W . this is roughly the same latitude as Longyearbyen in Svalbard

geographic north pole on the other hand is at 90° North

so maybe that was it

drive to cannot lah, drive in can, problem is how much you willing to pay

just get a tourist landing icebreaker cruise package in svalbard norway or murmansk russia
around 38k for you to land there and step + touch the ice for like 30 min
those near 100k ones have helicopter ride, drive there, wildlife and nature scenery observation

issit worth the money, nah, cause most of the time you're in the ship
and there are many places like north pole, far more things you can do for far cheaper prices
like just stay in svalbard norway don't take the north pole cruise
or visit canadian arctic or greenland and you can get similar experience

Apparently you can drive to the 1996 magnetic north pole which is around 78 Deg north and somewhere in Canada

This isn't the same as the geographic north pole which is at 90 Deg North and in the middle of the Arctic ocean
