yes, from melawati, its either use MEX or sungai besi highway . (exit near ampang there) . Bottleneck at MRR2 usually at flamingo hotel at peak hours.

for public, nearest LRT is wangsa maju or sri rampai. but no last mile transport, either have to park somewhere or take bus . (actually lot of bus here, got rapidKL bus depot somewhere near the melawati bukit mas roundabout , not sure of the timings though)

Apologies as I would be one of the new residents from one of the new developments nearby Nadayu 😅

But I believe after that, there shouldn’t be anymore development as far as I’m concerned

I think Desa Melawati side maybe there might be in the future

How’s the traffic to Bukit Jalil? I work further down in Putrajaya and I think that’s my only concern

I also chose Melawati due to the greeneries and not too far from the city
*
To Bukit Jalil usually not that bad, i leave around 7:30 , would reach office by 8:15.

When i do have meetings in Putra/Cyber, have to leave by 7AM for smooth traffic.
I'd do MRR2 > MEX > Putra by preference.

The greeneries is a plus point for sure , alot of outsiders like to come cycle. But as many pointed out with the recent pipes and construction works. Road not smooth anymore dry.gif

Yes I’m Chinese but I don’t like predominantly Chinese area such as Kuchai Lama and Cheras.

I grew up in Subang Jaya and am still living here so I like the diversity.

But surprisingly I’ve seen a lot of older Chinese traditional shop lots around the commercial area

Wondering if the original owners are still there
*
Subang jaya? oic.
Subang jaya have like 40% Chinese, malay 35%.

for comparison, Kuchai Lama is around 70% Chinese.

Taman Melawati? around 30% Chinese.

These traditional shops around Melawati are nice. some are still there.

u know Giant? they used to occupy the Ace Hardware and TNB shoplots. very busy area then.
Then they moved to Taman Permata. That location where Giant is now in Taman Permata....i cant recall what it used to be, but some of it was actually a petrol station, and we have nights markets there. now become Giant Mall already.

Also, not a Chinese shop, but there used to be a place called Thurkah's Banana Leaf in Melawati. very nice breakfast and lunch, patrons from all sort of races.
i think sometime after Covid, it became SHAM Banana Leaf, i never tried after that. From google review not as good as Thurkah's but still good reviews.
Change of ownership or management maybe.

Before Melawati Mall, there used to be a Driving Range there where i will go and hit some balls.

I dont see any more areas in Taman Melawati where they can do a big development, so i guess nowadays are ok.
There are a lot of changes in Taman Melawati over the years, but it is still a homely and nice place to stay.

Hi. I'm one of the locals that reside here.
What would you like to know?

Pros :

Really nice and green neigborhood (you can see ppl jogging / cycling at any hours of the day ,even at 11pm , so its relatively safe if you ask me)
lots of hipster/ kopitiam / fresh vibes with youngsters.
easy access to nature - kemensah, genting highland, also to KL

cons:
more and more condo's are being built, enroaching the back bukit tabur. expect traffic to be much worse after they VP .

In some parts, especially town centre (melawati mall area) , Traffic is really bad especially during peak hours . Why ?

- Small roads (melawati is old township, I've been living here since the 90's)
- Pasar malam every tuesday / thursday / saturday
- lots of school, and ppl picking up their kids

i found that everytime i go at these times, (like 5pm) , i just take moto , forget about car.

also saturday is also jam ya, morning coz of pasar tani.

If you ask me if I recommend ?

Yes , definitely if you have the budget . I believe its a bit better than wangsa maju and setiawangsa. Setiawangsa also not bad, but price will be on a higher side. Plus you don't get the greenery as good as melawati.

can't think of any other place I would reside in KV as of now .

Thank you and yea you are correct, I’m actually going to be staying around that area.

What about going back from Putrajaya or Bukit Jalil to Melawati using MEX? Will it be worse in the evening?
*
My office is in Cyberjaya but I only travel to office once or twice a week. The bottleneck is the exit to MRR2 near Bkt Jalil starting from 5-5:30pm. It can be a nightmare especially when it rains. Best if you take SUKE once you passed the Bkt Jalil exit as the next challenge will be at TBS if you take MRR2.

Before SUKE, couple of times I travel back from Cyberjaya via MEX thru Jalan Tun Razak entering Smart tunnel, then exit to AKLEH. The experience is less desirable especially in front of Menara TH. But that was before SUKE exist. SUKE does provide a quicker solution thou.

Exiting SUKE will be a slight jam during school days and there's a long queue exiting the MRR2 near the Al-Baik.com restaurant.

If you have the option for a flexible working hours, do consider.

You can try take the MRT. A friend of mine work in Putrajaya and it took him almost 1.5 hour to reach office.

Sorry, but isn’t your post more about Setapak than Melawati? 😅

Correct me if I’m wrong and I still do appreciate the sharing

and there i thought you said you have done your research lol.

exploring around the neighbourhood (Setiawangsa, Wangsa Maju etc).

I know there are a few Chinese restaurants in the commercial area near Melawati Mall, so are there anything else?

I’m looking for more advice from locals and not really asking for any particular condos.

are you expecting to cocoon yourself in taman melawati?
where is the nearest epf office?
where is the nearest jpj?
where is the nearest supermarkets?
where are the banks?
where are the eateries?
where are the parks, schools, daycare?

you may want to cross off each you dont do this, and that.
chances are, you stay there, you'll go to surrounding support area like wangsa maju, sri rampai, genting klang, more often than you think of "ohh....i just want to know melawati."
chances are, you'll go to areas where i go now.

else no need ask about mrr2 traffic all to way to Mex kan? just ask within melawati will do laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

In terms of doing your grocery shopping. Everything is practically available so u don't have to drive out far. Started going there in the late 90's when sent.my.sister for ballet class.

Over the years when on weekends to buy 4d for my mum. Now.go there bout once a.month to get.medicines & supplements from.big pharmacy.

There are 2 Chinese coffeeshop & some Chinese restaurants. Got a few vets & pet stores. Maybank, Cimb, Bsn are there.

Public & Islam bank I am.not sure are still there as they are situated on the other side of melawati mall & I seldom go that side as its mainly offices, art school & shoplot motel.

Hardware stores u got ace hardware & the smaller ones run by ahpek. Not sure if the traditional Chinese medicine is still open.

Post Office, printing service, arts & craft store even got a cash converter outlet.

Only problem is u are better off parking at melawati mall & walking out to the shoplots as hard to find parking during daytime with the exception of Sunday's

Always 1hr15+ if i leave in the evening.

MEX > MRR2 > SUKE > MRR2 if i'm feeling rich

or just MEX > MRR2 if it's in the middle of the month.

Most of the time i go from Office to Putrajaya so , free road via Puncak Jalil / Seri Kembangan.

Nice, i pun baru pindah kat melawati a few months ago. Very nice place. Dulu tinggal kat Kuchai lama. Like u said, Kuchai Lama area not for human live already, jam gila. But recent months the roads from Bulatan Mas to Bulatan Hillside kena korek and main tampal tampal. Road not smooth and they havent re-tar the road properly. Hope they will do it soon lah.

From my observation, ppl here live in harmony. U jogging waktu pagi/petang nampak joggers of all races greeting and nodding to one another, very friendly. Got a community of people called "Friends of Sungai Klang" that "jaga" our sungai, so the sungai is quite clean. I'm very thankful to them because the place i'm staying is facing directly to that sungai. One important thing for me is civic mindedness, and I think the people here are quite civic minded lah. I think i'm loving this place more and more.

I'm parking here to also to kepoh and to know more about Taman Melawati, especially where to eat good and cheap food. Oh, and Miss Ellie Tea house is one of my favourite

1) Traffic is ok. Got 3 main exits .. zoo negara, melawati main, klang gates side (direct to jln genting klang).. access to highways pretty good
2) Can get very2 jam esp during festive season - genting/east coast crowd/sell lemang tepi jalan. Luckily the area almost self contained.
3) Like some mentioned, condos start to crop up left right center. Last time mostly landed can see the bukit behind. Now all blocked. Last time morning got mist and cool, now not so much
4) The new condos are mixed .. believe many not happy as mostly new PRIMA : PPRT types
5) Lots of nature / hiking place. Again due to construction, dont know if it will last or not lah. Even the roads now are terrible, everywhere korek tampal now

the legendary cendol/rojak is the said rojak nearby melawati school
