iPhone 13 green vertical line - FOC replacement?

The iPhone 13 is taken care of extremely well. No dent or scratch or water or heat damage whatsoever. Just earlier today, saw a green vertical line at the far left edge of the screen.
I recall reading somewhere in the past that they do free screen replacements even when out of warranty, if their checks show there is no damage. Is this still the case? |

Curiously, the line went away after a software update. Odd, I thought it was a hardware defect
