Tis culture happen becoz those blue collar/hard labor go makan rush to continue job then remaining drink can take and sambung drink later .

nowadays many kopitiam dont ikan tepi already, only mamak still ikat tepi

try travel outside of west malaysia...no matter where u go, there is no ikat tepi

takeaway is take away....they will store it in a cup thn give it to you
same as many restaurant, many food court here, if u think u don't can't finish drinking it on the spot but wanna drink here(they don't care), they just serve u in a cup with a lid

until today after so long in WM, i still refused to opt for ikat tepi with a mangkuk
if i order takeaway(free drinks) and they gave me ikat tepi, i'll transfer it back to a cup back at home(double the work)
but if i wanna dine in and i wanna order drinks, i'll look around at other people's tables 1st....to see if they got a cup or ikat tepi inside a bowl
if i saw ikat tepi inside a bowl, i'll just order dine in where they serve in a proper cup and i finish the drink there on the spot

like for god sake...even mixue give their customer a proper cup, they don't care u dine in or takeaway
u go to thailand, no matter how roadside...they also serve u in a cup

not necessary can't finish. some do feel ikat tepi is more worth the money cause you feel it's more compare with a standard glass and there's more ice in it.
compare with those nice seal plastic cup i more prefer ikat tepi for takeaway.

Ikat tepi existed for a damn long time already. Ikat tepi + mangkuk is kind of new (last time got some shops also do), but ikat tepi itself existed for a long time. The other variation of ikat tepi, is ikat mati. Last time you dabao drinks, its also ikat mati cause where got so nice give you cups last time?

Ikat tepi was used by people who want to take away the drink, but still want to drink in car/motor or those that do hard labour. Quite common to see ikat tepi drinks being tied/hanged at construction sites where people work. Which is also why ikat tepi typically more expensive because the portion is bigger as its meant to be drank throughout a longer period.

Last time drinks were cheaper, we just order another drink. Nowadays people lepak at the shop long long, use wifi play mobile games, etc. So they order one bigger drink (ikat tepi) and sit there macam starbucks. If didn't finish, easy to just grab and go.

So since people started ordering more ikat tepi when dining in, shops started preparing a bowl to put it in. Hence the ikat tepi + mangkuk.

i think i now understand why business in MY are failing because we refused to improve
they keep asking customer to view from their perspective but business REFUSED to view from customer's perspective
this is a classic case of failing to adapt, making customer need to work harder for the food they paid

i give u a perfect example of a business who adapted, resolved the problem and business end up booming

they don't ask because they understand the problem....so they don't even care u dine-in or takeaway, they straight serve u in a cup
the only thing they need to know from u is which drink u want, they don't need to know anything else
they understand u can't finish it in 1 go so they straight serve u in a cup....pretty much solved the problem

sometimes it's just 1 step ahead but some business refused to do so and complain why business so bad

The whole thing fiasco is them adapting to their customer needs la. Just because their customer behaviour doesn't suit you, you think its the business problem Depending on the use case, ikat tepi is superior to a cup.

both cost are negligible but the experience and what u receive is what clicks in your mind
when you plan to return, your mind automatically tells u to return to the place that serves u cup

Come other people's country, see their norm lah... aiyoyo... not everyone ta pao means with very nice plastic cup BPA free or not, not sure.
