What he did was the opposite of defensive driving. Being defensive is to be aware of the surroundings and proactively react to avoid dangerous situation on the road in order to protect yourself and others.

TS instead choose to not give way and created a potentially dangerous situation for himself and the other car.

Maybe TS thought being defensive is to defend his right of way and defend his lane ownership.
