I'm trying to DIY my Vios ncp42.
So my next upgrade would be the sound treatments in my car before I do any major sound system upgrades.

I've been searching around shopee for brands. The cheapest one would be the 3M gold or black. But I don't really trust them as I haven't seen any informative review. Only those fast delivery etc. not much valid reviews. I don't really trust the quality for the price but if anyone here tried it and it's good do tell me haha.

So left the expensive "good" ones are STP.
These quality I would trust them but they come in a variety of thickness. Mainly 2mm 3mm and 6mm. In theory 6mm would be the best.
If anyone has cheaper options please do tell me 🥹

So I need some feedback or review on which one to get. How to apply I think I'll just YouTube it. If kind sirs are willing to teach I'm willing to learn 😎

Thank you all. 🙏🏻

STR is good but they are heavy, use the butyl sparingly and stragetically. most vibration on a vios comes from the floor pan, front wheel arch and firewall, then the lower door segments, rear wheel arch and rear seat backing (or the lack of)

Since you going to DIY assume you already willing to spend many hours of properly rolling the damping sheet out. It is as simply as that, pure hard labor of using the specific roller tools on every single inch. 3M are junk, tons of excellent brand around Malaysia market SilentCoat, Awave, STP, DrArtex, CTK, GranTurismo, GZ, Rainbow the list goes on.

Nobody can really advice you on the thickness, it is down to personal justification, for me 2MM is more than enough because the more important point to stress out is proper correct installation method. I have seen people applying 4mm and above because those are meant for audio competition purpose (adding up of 40-50kg in total), SO for my daily use 2mm is consider ALOT because it would affect my fuel consumption.

In fact i would opt for GroundZero 1.8mm for my next car, minimizing the weight.

Had my four door applied at shop for 3 layer of 2mm aluminium butyl rubber + 1 layer of absorber on my door trim (egg shell foam they call it).

On how to apply, i will share you few Youtube channel but it comes with warning because you eventually expose to ultra high end audio knowledge which for men is considered budget splurge.

Spend more time watch all those video listen carefully as they explain the method and reason of correct installation.
1. Pssound, UK (Look for some older video in the channel that touches basic fundamental)
2. Dynamics Autosound, Indonesia (Most of their video of soundproof their customer, they explains it)
3. TcAudiomute, Malaysia (Look for some older video in the channel that touches basic fundamental)

Woooah so many brands. I found one that is called carrozeria, about the same price as awave. How did you determine if that said brand is good? I definitely don't trust the 3m ones 😂

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll watch more videos first before starting 🤩

Countless of test ride on others car. Follow car audio group on facebook, reddit for people sharing their testimony.

Carrozeria is just the name Pioneer used for japan domestic market.

most ppl buy into MLV or butyl sheets, but that one is really just part of it

Instead of splurging money on more "soundproof" products, why not spend a little time to ponder on the elephant in the room?

1. tyre choice - Just get better touring/super touring tyres and you instantly lower your noise floor significantly. Choices like Hankook VP4, GY EfficientGrip, Michelin Primacy4/5 etc etc can reduce your tyres' noise floor. Not a viable option though if you're touge/track kaki

2. Door rubber seals - Do a RM1 note test on your aging car and note the areas where the money note can about freely. Try adjusting the position of the rubber seals (both door and chassis) to get them aligned with each other. If already aligned but still have gap means time to either restore the rubbers using rubber restore products or change them with new ones.

Try out these 2 if they can increase your comfort before going further on deadening/absorbing/barrier solutions.

2mm or 3mm is enough...

half a sheet per door is enough... cut the half sheet up to a few pieces and stick to strategic spots/nodes that vibrate most... don't stick too hard at first... you can tap on the door and see if its working or not, remove and reposition to better spot if required...

make sure the plastic sheet seals the door properly... put a fabric or foam type absorber between the plastic sheet and inner door panel will help...

1/4 sheet per wheel arch is enough... then add those egg shell type sponge inside around the arch to absorb more noise...

1-2 sheets to the roof should be enough... cut to long half and try stick to the roof where it rings the most...

don't need to do anything to the floor... may need some for the boot...

add D type rubber seals around the door if required...

DO NOT follow youtube ppl or accessory shop sticking 2-3 sheets per door and cover the whole floor and roof... these people don't know sound engineering... they will add 50-80 KG of dead weight to your car...

there is a point of diminishing returns... also its a vios afterall

also if you park in the sun... in 10-15 yrs of cooking... these butyl will deteriorate, melt and slowly flow out of the door drain hole, etc... just fyi... wink.gif

That's such a great insight. Thanks a lot 🙏🏻
Yeah I do agree. My aim is to make my audio sound better than without any treatment. Im gonna apply little by little to see how it feels lol. Probably will add alot on the boot side. Just not that much on either the roof or floor. Most likely won't be doing the floor HAHA

Are all sheet made with butyl? I don't know what materials they use lol
