MIRI (June 2): Eleven motorcycles were seized and three local men detained during Op Samseng Jalanan, a road safety operation carried out around Miri city and along Jalan Miri Bypass on May 31.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement today, said the operation was conducted between 11pm and 3am by a team of traffic police from the Miri District Police Headquarters.

The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the ‘P’ (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes.

“Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

“If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,” ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement.

Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes.

ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to report any street racing or road hooliganism by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957 or 085-430 479, or by visiting the nearest police station.

He added that such operations will continue periodically, advising road users—especially motorcyclists—to ride responsibly and avoid illegal street racing, modifying their vehicles, and not gather by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion or create noise disturbances that disrupt public peace as negligence will pose a danger to themselves and other road users.

honestly, i'm appalled by m'sian lack of willingness to read.
dont talk about read books la.
books are long, required commitment, & u can argued that it's an outdated medium.
also dont say current gen z, gen alpha, that has short attention span due to generation brought up by tablet & phones.

look at yourself in the mirror.
even gen x, y, or even boomer.
couple of years bck, i made some observation as part of experiment.
instructions can be right in front of people'a face, yet only small percentage of people willing to yake the take to read. most not even glance.
sometimes in restaurant, they will hav "special" menu sitting straight right on the table.
a lot of the time, it mentioned some freebies, ie; birthday month complimentary dessert, discount for doing survey/review, or most often freebies/complimentary if paid using certain card.

most of the time, nobody even glance at it.
only after i point it out, that people realized that r entitles to some freevies/complimentary.

No nid libraries.

One of the perks of the 21st century is ebooks/audiobooks.

There are enough ebooks out there to last multiple life times.

Ok, I don't read as much as I used to.
But I listen to audiobooks when I walk...

audiobook bay? ❤️

There is still a lot of good books that are not banned

I don't think we're missing much having "DARLINGKU MR. COLD MAFIA", "TUAN ZIYAD: FORBIDDEN LOVE", and "KOLEKSI PUISI MASTURBASI" being restricted from publication in malaysia

Forget about books: look at how many times /k just read the headlines and don't read the content and ask questions that were answered in the text body

M'sans tak reti baca punya. Easier to complain that insurance agent "cheat people" when they themselves don't read the details. Hantam projects when their "criticisms" have been addressed in the project documentation.

It doesn't help that in Malaysia information needs to be gatekeeped

I'm a book buying junkie and I run around most bookstores every week just to check out new stock. I can tell you majority of the reading material is not even close to useful.

It may be good for learning English or grammar, but it's no where close to actually gaining any field knowledge that could help elevate your learning skills.

Only basher and Kinokunya offer some really nice books to upgrade your creative and mechanical skills but those books are rm160 and above. Way beyond affordable level.

National library is a joke. Public Library out of 100 books maybe 1 to 2 nice book. 2nd hand bookstore is better and finding treasures sometimes. Use to like book excess in the early years but this days they grab too many pleasure reading common books and not many other categories of book anymore. Price is still fair but mostly time burning books.

So with majority of the books that only provide literacy value and not critical thinking... How abang nuar expect us to "upgrade" Trough reading? It's like judging base on the surface of the water without knowing there is water current beneath.
