After 70s as a driver.

1. Driver should go for medical check up & fitness check.
2. Clear of accident and summons.

Driving is actually considered a complex task.

Why we allow older ppl to drive without health screening is stupid.

Old people are actually more careful when driving. They would take multiple breaks especially on long distance highways during balik kumpung time. Most accidents I saw are from younger aged drivers who speed without looking the roads.

Good idea but barking up the wrong tree.

Enforcement is where the issues are at.

GDL holders need a medical check every year in order to renew licenses. Doesn't stop all the recent heavy vehicle accidents. Licensing isn't the issue, it's enforcement.

You cant blanket and burden ALL older folks because some get into accidents. Where are the stats to justify that?

Exactly. If you've live that long, god forbid you haven't acquired some common sense.

My dad is 75. Drives perfectly fine. He just doesn't have the attention and stamina to drive 2-3 HR stints...so he takes more frequent breaks or just take the train for cheap.

It's the younger drivers, motorcyclist and heavy commercial vehicles that get into trouble more than anything.

Maybe should make it compulsory for new drivers to repeat their driving tests annually until they reach 35 brows.gif

My dad now 80yo. Still can drive. Mostly i allow him to drive to taman kopitiam or mini market to chit chat or sometimes to buy 4D.

But i every year bring him to med check up and every 2 years do some throughout body scanning to try to detect early sign of stroke or heart attack.

He been doing this for many years ady but sometimes a bit heart breaking also. He told me as he live longer then he see his friends leaving one by one.

This will help reduce road accidents by few %

elderly already forming very less % of drivers on the road due to them being retired and no longer needed to. If drive frequent also.. probably for short distance .

As for working class adult population between 20-60 years old ... the odds of them causing accidents are much higher due to sheer number of them on the road + driving more frequently to make a living.

The elephant in the room not addressed, aka tackling the types of drivers forming the bulk of accidents especially fatalities .

I'm sure authority have stats of accident cases and how it was caused TOGETHER with driver age groups.
