(Seremban, 27th) An enforcement action to arrest unlicensed foreigners exposed the potential shortage of manpower in private nursing homes for many years, causing the 23-year-old Megawah Nursing Home to fall into a "worker shortage" and was forced to close early.
Liu Xitang, chairman of Megawah Nursing Home and Negeri Sembilan Care Center Federation, admitted that the home has not been able to hire suitable local caregivers for many years because they require high salaries, cannot tolerate the working environment (especially facing the disabled for a long time), and even mentally retarded people are brought in to apply. Various obstacles have forced the home to hire foreign workers.
He said that manpower shortage has always been a common problem faced by private nursing homes. He has repeatedly requested dialogue and meetings with relevant government agencies on this matter but to no avail.
The four arrested foreign workers were found through a job posting on the nursing home's Facebook page. At that time, the nursing home was in the most urgent need of manpower, and they also helped the nursing home overcome its current difficulties. "
He said that with the arrest of the four people, if the shortage of manpower in private nursing homes is not paid attention to and addressed by the government, another four private nursing homes in Negeri Sembilan are expected to face closure next month.
He said that the home has helped many lonely elderly people in the past 23 years, including those who sleep in garbage dumps, wander around or suffer from disasters that result in incomplete limbs. These people cannot take care of themselves and need someone to take care of them, including cleaning up their excrement, feeding or giving medicine, and follow-up visits.
"There are currently 41 people living in the home, aged between 60 and 100 years old. Ten of them are lonely elderly people who do not receive care fees because they have no family support. Although some of the elderly have families, some are sent here because of family disputes. My wife Liang Caifeng and I hope to bring care to the society with love, and we also accept people sent here by representatives to handle complaints, regardless of political party and community background."
The nursing home, which has been in operation for 23 years, is now short of staff. Foreign workers have been arrested. He and his wife are facing charges at any time. Facing jail time or fines, he couldn't help but choke up and ask, is there any meaning for them to exist?

Liu Xitang emphasized that he held a press conference on Tuesday (27th) to announce the closure of the nursing home. He, 61, and his 60-year-old wife Liang Caifeng,
After the arrest of four foreign workers, the task of taking care of 41 people fell on him and his wife.
"I get up at 5 o'clock every morning and go to the nursing home at 5:30, boil hot water, wake everyone up, bathe them, change diapers, deal with urine and feces, etc. I spent almost 4 hours bathing 40 people. I was so sore from washing that I realized that I was getting old and no longer as energetic as I was in my 30s."
