Mainly because we import a lot of our food as our food production has been neglected since the 80s

Thailand & Vietnam grow their own food.
Singapore literally grow money in their banks

Malaysia? Don't grow food, uses money to subsidize food whilst enriching the elites.

Maybe the real reason is we all fatty bom bom eat a lot. More than number 2. Bukannye grocery mahal

Haha yes, totally agree! It’s not really that groceries are too expensive — the real reason is we all just eat a lot. We’re always munching on something, and we definitely eat more than we burn off. No wonder we’ve all turned into fatty bom boms! 😅🍕🍟

Do you really think this problem started in the past 2/3 years?

Maybe can dig into it more....but I would say figures are in bal park.

Honestly, I spend roughly RM800 per month on groceries and sundries including non-edibles like washing detergents (lump together cause i buy from same place). I feed 2 humans and 2 dogs.

RM9.6k per year roughly, in line with the study's US$1,940 figure for Malaysia is equivalent to RM8,848.

There are pros and cons about lower currency

To blindly say we need stronger currency without considering the impact is plain stupid

The biggest problem is we have neglected our own food production for decades and that is why we need to import so much

malaysia exporters don't convert to ringgit. usd safer than ringgit so ringgit get lower and lower.

“Asian exporters should continue to convert their dollars into local currencies, after several years of building up dollar deposits,” Goldman Sachs Group Inc strategist Danny Suwanapruti wrote in a note last week.

Imagine meats in Kora Kinabalu similar in prices to Melbourne.
Yes. That's the truth.
