As of May 1, all eateries, including hawker stalls, have been barred from using household subsidised gas cylinders.

Instead, they have to use new purple 14kg commercial gas cylinders, which cost RM70 – almost three times the price of household subsidised gas cylinders, which are sold at just RM26.

Industry players are also required to apply for a yearly permit if they want to have more than three such cylinders.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry is now cracking down to ensure that the food and beverage industry complies.

On May 1, the ministry kickstarted Ops Gasak to combat the misuse of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) subsidies. Since then, officers have seized RM883,000 worth of goods from eateries deemed to have broken the rules.

On May 23, minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, who said the LPG subsidy cost the government RM3.4bil, clarified that premises using more than 42kg of LPG - or more than three cyclinders - must apply for a permit under the regulations of the Control of Supplies (Amendment) Act 2021.

The government had planned the switch to commercial gas in 2019 but had put the enforcement on hold.

Industry players, however, are still unclear about the requirements surrounding the implementation, warning that a switch to commercial gas could lead to a new round of price hikes.

Petaling Jaya Coffeeshop Association president Keu Kok Meng said they are willing to comply with the implementation, but what comes with the switch to the more expensive gas must be made clear.

“The government must announce what comes with the switch of gas cylinders. This is because food at coffeeshops are priced competitively low. This change will affect our costs.

“We understand where the government is coming from but give us time to change and adapt,” he told The Star, adding that they have been given notice by their gas suppliers to apply for permits.

He added that based on a survey of a noodle shop selling 70 bowls using two cylinders in a day, the price of noodles will see an increase of more than RM1 per bowl.

Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners’ Association (Primas) president Govindasamy Jayabalan said they have written to the ministry to seek clarification on the matter.

He also urged the ministry to give them some room to adapt instead of issuing summons or seizing items in their operations.

“The 50kg commercial gas cylinder was not practical to be placed inside the premises, so the 14kg commercial gas cylinder is a good move but the cost is high.

“On average, a small restaurant uses about 100 cylinders per month, so that comes to RM2,600, but now we will have to fork out RM7,000. So, you can see that cost will eventually translate to the price of food.

2 cylinders used for 70 bowls of noodles, sounds like mega bullshiet. That means each bowl uses 400g of LPG which is ~17000 btu of energy. The energy needed to heat 1kg of water from 25 celcius to 100 celcius is aroud 300 btus. To make one noodles requires the amount of gas equivalent to boiling 56 liters of water? Wanna scam who?

Can not abolish. Najib have GST exemption for crustaceans with prawn in mind. And PH says Lobster are also crustaceans and accuse Najib of favoring the rich.

when price of stuff go down they never reduce their price, they should be using subsidised gas, even if the gas given to them for free also they wont reduce their price, as consumers we just choose where to eat , boikot those who are too greedy. even roadside seller which dont pay rent also same price as kopitiam price how does that even make sense

Nothing wrong with that calculation.

I've had sold less than 10 plates 3 days in a row and still needed to replace 1 full tong gas for 3 burner that need to turn on 8 hours on low flame and not counting in food preps yet.

Luckily i shut down my operation already as cost keep going upward especially with the babi price.

why people blame gomen if eateries increase price. not gomen's fault, eateries shouldn't be using subsidized gas in the first place.

curi curi maximize profit evade tax all cash business but when business no good like during covid, they ask for ploteksyen and bailout and white flag. some even lied to say they are going banklup, some peanut butter company

And it will continue to be. As long the source of subsidized natural gas are purchasable, restaurent will continue to use it.

come out, couldn't find the extra prawns, portion also macam not much more than regualr. went back to complain the mualaf taukei gave me kok eye stare and said the prawns were hidden underneath. five small ones....

Most of the flame is a wasted energy.

Want use EV also cannot, shop doesn't allow high power car as power is part of rental.

This practice of decanting subsidized LPG cylinders and selling the contents at unsubsidized price had already been done for a very long time. It is obviously very lucrative.

*
You need count in other prep stuff and soup and constant boiling water throughout the day

Why you assume that induction won't explode? Electronic would explode too especially the capacitor, transistor and transformer inside.

who so free spray 14kg cylinder into purple paint just to save RM44 per tong. The paint and timing also can't justify the saving. Some more u have to paint the whole tong into purple, including the bottom and top.

The government spends RM3.4 billion annually on LPG subsidies. With a population of around 36 million, that’s approximately:

RM3.4 billion ÷ 36 million = RM94.45 per Malaysian per year

Apply some logic:

After removing the subsidy, will the average person end up paying more or less?

If the average Malaysian ends up paying more than RM94.45 annually due to inflation or price hikes, then removing the subsidy achieves the opposite of its intent—especially for B40 and M40 groups, many of whom rely on outside food because cooking isn't economical for single or dual-income households.

Let’s run the numbers:
If the cost of a meal increases by RM1 per plate:

2 meals/day × RM1 = RM2/day
RM2 × 30 days = RM60/month
RM60 × 12 months = RM720/year

Of course, not everyone eats out every day. Assume 30% of the population eat outside.

0.3 × RM720 = RM216/year

Clearly, with a RM1.00 hike, a person could end up paying almost 2 x more than what they "gained" from the subsidy cut (RM216 vs RM94.45).

So the key question becomes:

Does this subsidy removal really reduce government spending, or does it merely shift the burden to the people without net savings?

If it’s merely a transfer mechanism—removing RM3.4B from public subsidy but forcing civilians to pay RM7.7B in cost increases—then it’s not cost-effective. In fact, it's economically regressive.

My gut feeling tells me they will say we need to pay for the loan taken for 1MDB. It's so easy to push all the blame onto that.

If they don't flame that, then maybe we can get around 2mil/bed = 1700 beds hospital. If one new hospital says 80 beds, maybe we can get 21 nos of new hospitals ?

Bank in the U.S. is nothing but shitty gamblers by gambling other people's money and getting fat bonuses while doing it and receiving bailout from taxpayers, with zero contribution to the community, nothing but pure breed of parasites.

SMEs, on the other hand, hired workers of all backgrounds, low-skill to professionals, built products and services, and contributed to the economy and to the community.

FAKTA TONG GAS UNGU

Anak Tok Imam Besar tapi kuat fitnah!

Hampa yg kuatkuasakan peraturan ni pada Okt 2021, kemudian hampa tuduh Madani menekan??

PAS menuduh Madani larang peniaga kecil guna tong gas bersubsidi RM26, hakikatnya,

This is the correct answer. No targeted subsidies

Either subsidies or none at all

This debacle will be just like local rice non-supply. Due to 2 price structure, Millers will simply rebrand local rice as imported rice so can get higher price.

Just like we consumers cant find packet cheper subsidized cooking oil anywhere because all hoarded by food operators

Prediction:

We consumers will not find subsidized green tong gas anywhere. Tong gas traders will simply paint all tong as purple and charge higher price. Those FnB operators with cable can get green tong gas but will also raise their prices

Confirm one

For household. You have to bring in/ exchange your old tong to get a fully charged one. So no issue. It is not the same as packet oil because that one there is no limit or control on how many packets you can take unless the shop themselves implement a system to control.

Example nsk ask for ic card if you want buy packet oil.

“Makcik Kiah Tak Perlu Pun Guna Tong Purple”

❌ 2. “Mereka dipaksa guna tong gas komersial RM70 – tiga kali ganda!”
✅ Fakta: Harga LPG komersial ditetapkan berdasarkan pasaran tanpa subsidi, bukan sengaja “dipaksa” kerajaan naikkan.
Tong ungu (komersial) memang sejak dulu bukan disubsidi.
Peraturan hanya memastikan subsidi tidak disalah guna, bukan memaksa semua peniaga bertukar tong.

Kaedah pengeluaran, Kegunaan, Rantaian bekalan.

❌ 5. “Harga makanan akan naik sebab larangan guna tong subsidi”
✅ Fakta: Harga makanan sudah naik atas pelbagai faktor: kos bahan mentah, sewa, gaji pekerja — bukan semata-mata kerana tong gas.
Jika subsidi terus dinikmati oleh restoran mewah, beban fiskal negara meningkat dan golongan B40 terpinggir.

❌ 6. “Inikah rupa ‘Keadilan Sosial’ versi Madani?”

❌ 8. “Kerajaan Madani sengaja tambah beban rakyat”

PUTRAJAYA: Food traders will not be subjected to any enforcement action over the use of subsidised gas until October, nor will they require a permit for using more than 42kg of gas at a time, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said the Cabinet had agreed to review regulations related to traders' use of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders based on recommendations submitted by his ministry.

"No action will be taken against micro- and small-scale food and beverage traders for using subsidised LPG cylinders," he said during a press conference after a Cabinet meeting on Thursday (June 5).
