NIO Responds to Suzhou Charging Station Fire Involving Multiple Vehicles; Suspected Initiating Vehicle Brand Yet to Respond

On May 24, 2025, at a third-party charging station in Suzhou Industrial Park, a vehicle from a third-party brand suddenly caught fire. The flames rapidly spread to adjacent vehicles, including a NIO ES6 and ET7, ultimately causing severe damage to the vehicles involved. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any casualties, which can be considered a silver lining amidst the misfortune.
Consistent with its previous rapid responses to online incidents, NIO's official website also issued a swift response this time.
From NIO's official statement, it appears that the NIO vehicles involved were "collateral damage." The vehicles were destroyed because they were "ignited by another vehicle that suffered thermal damage."

In other words, this fire incident was not related to NIO's own vehicles. The NIO vehicles destroyed were an ES6 and an ET7.

Furthermore, based on the information currently disclosed by NIO, these two vehicles were likely "in the process of charging" when they were destroyed. NIO's wording was "during parking," but this is a personal inference based on NIO's official release, and the official explanation should be taken as final.

The location where these two vehicles caught fire was not a NIO-owned charging station but a "third-party charging station in Suzhou Industrial Park."

Additionally, NIO stated that after its vehicles were ignited, they immediately sent out a backend alert. NIO personnel rushed to the scene at the earliest opportunity to handle the situation.

Subsequently, NIO will assist the affected users with insurance claims and discussions regarding vehicle repurchases. It must be said that NIO's response to this incident was quite prompt.

I believe this deserves commendation. After all, timely responses to online incidents and related information can effectively allow the public to understand the truth, thereby avoiding potential damage to the brand.

It's important to note that in an era of diversified information dissemination and extremely rapid transmission speeds, timely responses to relevant information are a very necessary and wise measure.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that there are online rumors suggesting the "third-party vehicle" in this fire incident is an electric vehicle from a certain domestic independent brand. However, this brand has not yet responded. The official response should be taken as final.

Charging Station Safety Hazards Should Attract Industry-Wide Attention and Emphasis

In the current Chinese market, the market penetration rate of new energy vehicles is continuously increasing, and the number of vehicles on the road has also significantly risen and continues to grow.

In this context, does this fire incident remind us that aspects like the operational management of charging stations should place greater emphasis on safety?
For instance, should relevant charging stations implement more protective measures regarding the spacing between charging bays and physical isolation devices to prevent similar incidents?

At the same time, issues such as equipment maintenance (to avoid problems like aging), risks related to protocol compatibility, and the potential for chain reactions also warrant sufficient attention and consideration.

Solving this problem may require a collective effort from the industry. On one hand, from a policy perspective, relevant mandatory standards might need to be introduced, such as requiring charging piles to be equipped with independent temperature sensors, increasing the spacing between parking bays, and equipping them with liquid nitrogen fire extinguishing units.

From the corporate level, domestic power battery companies should perhaps focus on investment and R&D in areas like "fire prevention" to control "hidden dangers" before they emerge.

From the user's perspective, when charging, they should try to choose charging piles that meet their vehicle's standards and offer better safety assurance to avoid financial and other losses.

There should be laws to protect other property and vehicle owners from fire damage from these EV vehicle owners and charging facilities proprietors. EV charging stations should be placed away from properties and be a standalone facility to prevent occurrences like the above.

this is Grok answer

QUOTE
There is no definitive evidence from available sources that the SAIC Roewe Ei5 has a version with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery. The Roewe Ei5 has consistently been documented as using Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery chemistry, specifically with capacities of 35 kWh, 52.5 kWh, and 61.1 kWh across its model years (2017–2021 and post-facelift versions).

Best to lease EVe instead of buying outright. Any problems, just get another from the leasing company. Zero risks.

When the leased EV burns the property and neighbours property as well, the leasing company pays for the damages ?
