That part is supposed to be cast single piece. And it is mounted to some bush and allows pivot moving up and down. It looks like the metal broke at the pivot point. Thats crazy!!

Don’t think this part is cast.

It more on forming and bending.

Chinese companies are definitely capable of producing quality parts for the cars. But whether car manufactures are paying them enough to manufacture quality parts is another question.
With the prices they are selling and to top it up with massive discounts raises a big question mark on where they are skimping at.

The urony is most consumers onlu care about the price tag and nothing else.

In the electronics industry, an example of a part made in China is said to be rated to deliver 1A output current. But 90% of the time, designer would use maybe just 10-30% of this maximum capability. So, when you try to use closer to the "maximum rating or even just like 80% of it", this is when the parts failed. A friend of mine that owns a shop in Psar Road has plenty of this sort of purchases from China. I believe this is the same happening in any industry for parts design and made in China. The German like to build to the limit they said and the Japanese beyond the limit and CCP products are made to sekadar tahan untuk kegunaan biasa. Push it further nearer to the "maximum specification", that's when you see the real specification.

Only the old series parts are coming from local supplier while the X series a big majority of it still are from China. Proton has no volume and hence the local supplier are unable to commit. That is why the stock issues is still there and never solved because barang semua dekat China.

no parts of anything geely is made here...they deemed it too expensive for them
which is why every parts had to be shipped in from china

that's why whatever that's broken in a geely nowadays or any china cars need 2 months to replace...with or without warranty rclxub.gif

That is the surprising part. I was under the impression that the Proton Saga was STILL made locally when I accompanied my client to do Pre-Delivery Inspection. Manatau was told that everything now comes from China. Terkejut sial.

Really? Even that campro engine is produce in China and assembled here?

I thought they need a minimum local content to get tax preferential treatment

That was what I was told by the Head Technician at the SC when I requested tests to be performed. Lets just say at this juncture, as a buyer, I wouldn't touch the current model based on what I have a seen.

Hopefully this way of doing business does not spread to other manufacturers too especially the reliable ones.

Campro is made partly by Perodua in Sg Chua. But seeing that parts like the gearbox and interior lights are direct Geely parts bin not surprised if certain parts made in china by Geely supplier

I happened to take a grab taxi from KLIA 2 weeks ago.
S70 model. Have to agree the interior feel luxurious but somehow, I get the floating feeling even at 70-80 km/hour. And I was sitting at the front pax seat. Both my wife and dotter also feels the same when I asked them later. So it was not my own feeling as well.

Secondly, there seems to be a huge vibration coming from the engine when the car was moving from stationary. It is like the whole front portion shakes/vibrates badly from 0-50 km/hr or thereabouts. The feel is like your wheel alignment is out and the car wobbles. It could be also the wheel are not aligned properly etc. I did not ask or speak to the driver about this as it is not nice to comment negatively to a stranger about his car.

I made these comments coming from a 3-cylinder SUV Ativa, by comparison.

certain parts are still produced locally which is why u don't see part shortage for local models compared to geely cars

but 1 thing that i know is now from china is their power window regulator
they already resolved that problem 17 years ago but now problem came back meaning they switched supplier again, this time is china rclxub.gif

U have totally misunderstood the whole concept of made in Malaysia cars.

U see the parts all come from China and assembled in Malaysia. Even if the parts were made in Malaysia, it would have still followed instruction manuals from China on how to manafacture the part according to their specs.

So since the car is already poorly engineered in China, it doesnt matter where the part is made , as long as its following a poorly engineered instruction manual, its gonna produce lousy products

Thats China for u. They simply dont have the engineering expertise to make cars. All they know how to do is put leather onto seats, put leds lights into the cabin, put wheels onto tyres , and thats why they are good in making EVs because its the easiest car to make with the least amount of engineering required.

assembled locally, not made locally because CCP brand wanted to save as much cost as possible

the irony part is china is the leading country in steel production and they can't produce top quality parts for their cars rclxub.gif

Because they dont have the engineering expertise. Just because u have a good raw material doesnt mean u can turn it into a high quality product.

Same concept as I give u lee zi jia badminton racquet, does that mean u can play as good as him?

Yup. Same feeling when i drove my friends S70. I dont understand how ppl can say S70 is a good car.
*
I will not comment that S70 is not a good car etc, as it can create unhappiness to the buyers/users. But I am sharing what I felt when riding the car. Maybe 55 mins ride was too short to make a good judgement but my comments are based on personal experience, rightly or wrongly. I am not condemning S70 in any way.

car manufacturer in fact don't manufacture anything...they're only designer and assembler

all the other parts are made from bosch, denso, APM, aisin, GMB...etc etc

your product represent your country's image

that's why USA always use that slogan to advertise their product last time
if it's built american, it's gonna last....and they actually did that

china could've made their car tough and give middle finger to USA but they didn't and missed the opportunity

QUOTE(fongsk @ May 26 2025, 08:36 AM)

Normally people said Perodua is the one that got 'sampan' feeling. But in your case, it is proton.

It shows how Proton quality has fallen after becoming Baoteng.

Last time complain power window (still an issue), now metal suspension parts also break.

Yes, surprisingly so. That’s why I qualify my statement to say one of my ride is Ativa, to provide a comparison. I really did feel the floating even at 70-80 km/hr. Maybe side effect of after flight as well. But I had taken flights and take bezza, vios, city, saga before. No such ‘floating’ feel.

Another point to note also is the sound when passing those speed control strips on the road. The feel is not comfortable and the sound of the blip blip invades the cabin very loudly.

Again, I must stress that I am saying all these not to belittle or try to sabotage proton or S70. This is just my feeling when taking the S70. What I commented also can be due to the maintenance of the car since it is used for Grab.

Could be la. It looks sleek. As I had said, what I mentioned was my experience. I am not an expert, and I compare this to my Ativa which is also 3-cylinder turbo (smaller engine though)
