QUOTE(seriosekitt3h @ May 25 2025, 07:25 PM) do you even have proof? I can see why they are reluctant to build proper infrastructures, so that can maintain the 'costly' transport cost. Smart move..I can't tell any bout other states but most Sarawakian high ranking officials uses private jets and helicopters to travel either to KL or deep in the pendalaman. They rarely stay overnight in those places, so that they can deal other issues and meetings the next day This is where the most bulk cost of TRANSPORTATION goes. And the cost to just charter a group of government servants into the rural just for work is costly Most of it includes renting a boat and the operator for a few days, booking homes for accommodations where no hotel existed and bringing prepared pack food for the trips. Now I'm not to say some of them didn't abuse this availability to their own interest, but the one I know, personally, is usually the multiple daytrips shopping/medical to KL from Kuching from a certain you know who, that she will not be named. Most YB/MP I know ONLY takes year end holiday with their families. Rarely they bring their families but instead they usually brings staffs and hired people to tag a long. And usually they have free and easy day to sight seeing and shopping. That is pretty common. I used to work in government so free and easy day after a lengthy annual course is pretty much allowed. Sometimes, they ask you, where you want to go with the chartered bus? Go see strawberry farm? Go eat Satar at the beach? Go to the mall? Go to KLCC? |

QUOTE(Rorschach85 @ May 26 2025, 08:27 AM) There is no dispute that getting around Sarawak is challenging and expensiveWhat does that have to do with the Premier's Office asking for RM100 million for overseas travel when the Federal government spent RM44 million on overseas travel in 2024? I think it is a fair question to ask what overseas travel is the Sarawak government doing that is more expensive than the federal level. ruffy_z liked this post

QUOTE(Rorschach85 @ May 25 2025, 12:41 PM) KUCHING (May 23): Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Padungan) has called on the Sarawak government to be transparent by disclosing details of its official overseas trips. is that a typo? billions or millions? RM237bil is very huge amount lehDuring a heated debate at today’s Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, Chong expressed concerns over the Supplementary Supply Bill, which was recently passed with a total allocation of RM237.66 billion. He highlighted that the Premier’s Department had requested an additional RM100 million specifically for travel expenses. “I think spending RM100 million on travelling overseas is extravagant – it is too extravagant,” he said. He also drew attention to a written question by Violet Yong (DAP-Pending), which was ruled out, for asking for a breakdown of official overseas travel expenses incurred by the Premier, ministers, deputy ministers, and state ministries over the past five years. The question was rejected on the grounds that it contravened public policy, Chong explained. “What contravenes public policy – is it the act of asking the question, or the act of spending too much money to go overseas?” Chong further questioned. “Don’t treat us like three-year-old kids, we are not asking for the itinerary of the Premier. She (Yong) is asking for the information on the expenses for the past five years for overseas trips,” he added. Calling Yong’s query a reasonable request, Chong later told a press conference that the Premier’s Office should publish such information on its official website. “The answer that was given by the Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang is totally unacceptable, as he said this was due to security reasons. “I directly confronted him, brushed aside such explanation so that you don’t treat us as three-year-old kids,” he said. source |

KUCHING (May 22): The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed two Supplementary Supply Bills involving a total of RM391,429,717 for additional expenditure that was not covered in previous allocations.
The Bills, tabled by Deputy Premier and Second State Minister for Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, were the Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill involving an allocation of RM153,769,197 and the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill for RM237,660,520. According to Uggah, the Supplementary Supply (2024) is to meet the cost of various services incurred by various Ministries and Departments for which funds were not provided for or insufficiently provided for in the 2024 estimates. Meanwhile, he said the Supplementary Supply (2025) seeks additional expenditure, among others, a total sum of RM100,000,000 required by the Department of the Premier of Sarawak to cater for rental of air-chartered services due to increased activities. “A total sum of RM72,264,000 is required by the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development to cater for a special Pocket Money Initiative at RM1,200 per Sarawakian student pursuing a diploma or bachelor’s degree in higher education institutions throughout Malaysia. “A total sum of RM62,271,138 is required by the following Ministries and Departments to cover payment for special monthly allowance, Bantuan Insentif Sara Hidup, to all Sarawak civil servants effective January 2025,” he added. – Bernama sos cili -> https://www.theborneopost.com/2025/05/22/sa...y-supply-bills/ |

QUOTE(haya @ May 26 2025, 08:38 AM) There is no dispute that getting around Sarawak is challenging and expensive Does the Federal government RM44 million include Anwar travels? RM44 million feels pretty cheap consider Anwar is like travelling to meet some country leader every month. And if its really includes Anwar travels, then what on earth are Sarawak travelling to?What does that have to do with the Premier's Office asking for RM100 million for overseas travel when the Federal government spent RM44 million on overseas travel in 2024? I think it is a fair question to ask what overseas travel is the Sarawak government doing that is more expensive than the federal level. |

I have issues with bini accompanying ministers only work trip. I don't think they use jet to fly to Europe.Flight ticket cost. Imagine business tickets to Europe. The chartered jet looks abit embarrassing I don't think they can fly that long time n if they do will need to stop multiple times for refuel. The chartered jet is from Hornbill skyways which is a state own company. Basically money is going out of right pocket to left pocket. This post has been edited by g5sim: May 26 2025, 10:36 AM |
