acer failure rate also high right? coz last time i bought a acer monitor. It kaput before reaching 2years old. screen melt and got some very bad chemical smell.

I notice that my 2 HP monitors seem like long lasting. 1 already 7 years still kicking, the other 10years old already.
Dell monitor at 3.5 years start having horizontal line issue.

hdr is absolutely useless without oled and in future micro led it needs 600-2000 nits to show the color range dont let xiaomi bamboozle. but you still untung on the high refresh rate.
personally a resolution guy i mean misses av also 60fps max so i managed get a 4k monitor for 760

many people don't understand what proper HDR actually means. this is because marketing by these brands has been very deceitful to avg people

HDR means:
- high peak brightness. high end OLED TVs now hit >1500 nits at 2% and 10% window. mid-end OLED TVs also easily >1000 nits around that window percentage.
- high contrast ratio. this means when black, it is true black. ur RM300 IPS display has a backlight that is not true black, resulting in near shit contrast ratio (black becomes dim grey). when they rate 1500:1, it's usually rated in the most optimal brightness at 0%-10% brightness to reach that figure (because IPS backlight will be much dimmer). when set >20% brightness, it's where its shittiness happens (usually drops down to 1000:1 or lower).
- high DCI-P3 & rec.2020 color gamut coverage (much wider than sRGB). true HDR display covers >95% DCI-P3 and >75% rec.2020
- 10-bit color depth or more. msi pro mp251 e2 is only 8-bit (6-bit + FRC some more)

most important ones are high peak brightness and high contrast ratio. any1 of these missing, means instant fake HDR. many HDR400 IPS monitors are fake HDR as well. usually they put "HDR ready", because it only means it can receive HDR input, but it will fail to produce real HDR output
to get true HDR, get OLED TVs, OLED monitors or mini-LED TVs with FALD. mini-LED monitors in malaysia market is kong

the reason why windows display information show like that is because windows read ur display EDID (Extended Display Identification Data)

vendors can put whatever info into their monitors' EDID and let windows read it. this also means that ur display will be able to receive HDR input. but, ur display cannot, and will never output proper HDR, hence it is not capable of HDR and it's not HDR ready, and it's HDR ready only because vendors like to deceive ppl. this behaves the same as my old LG 27GL850, a HDR400 monitor, but can never output proper HDR.
also seems like ur display's 6-bit+FRC manage to fool windows into thinking it's a 10-bit monitor thru EDID.

anyhow u bought the monitor, regardless if u want to believe it can do HDR or learn that it can't, best just enjoy it since it's a bargain

Dell does not have a 27" 5K ultrasharp if I am not mistaken.
5K 27" is still pretty pricey. Might have to go for a 4K monitor instead.

Currently thinking between the AW2725Q or a U2725QE
But also open for anything with similar spec but cheaper....

Really need good oled panels to enjoy proper HDR

but high nits is not the issue for cheap HDR monitors, it's the dark area's quality. HDR400 on games already hurts my eyes on some scenes because it's quite bright when the monitor is used inside the house and not outside with direct sunlight... But dark areas still really sux on HDR400 IPS monitors (the contrast ratio)

if u use 4k on Mac OS, then the UI resolution will be recommended to 1080p.
*
At 4k, the font will either be too small (100%) or too large (200%).
If I set at 150% it won’t be as crispy.

But that’s ok. Price difference between a 4k and 5k monitor is too large to justify just for “crispy system text”.

400 nits isn’t enough. Me and bacon just saying it for what it is.
You can walk into sengheng, go over to the oled tv section and see the hdr there.
Or go switch, find an iPhone 16 pro and open the photo app and swipe brightness up.

yes you can get FHD 24" 120Hz monitors at that price nowadays
Well tbh I think for normal use also 100Hz is more than enough
I had a 24" 165Hz monitor 1080P monitor, now I changed to 27" 100Hz 2K monitor, then I bring the 24" monitor to my workplace. 24" @ 1080P is the minimum requirement for a comfortable working screen space imo.

QUOTE(Brotherjoe @ May 24 2025, 08:58 AM)
acer failure rate also high right? coz last time i bought a acer monitor. It kaput before reaching 2years old. screen melt and got some very bad chemical smell.

I notice that my 2 HP monitors seem like long lasting. 1 already 7 years still kicking, the other 10years old already.
Dell monitor at 3.5 years start having horizontal line issue.
*
I think Acer is ok.
my previous monitor was acer. plugged into a wall plug for 4 years now that only now I realized has sub-optimal grounding. Which explains why every time there's thunder my monitor likes to turn off for a bit and then turn back on.
it still works fine but I now notice a bit of white-blue light bleed at the edges.

I found out that Mac OS works very well with Dell Monitors, in term of colour, contrast and dynamic range. There's no need to do any calibration and everything just looks exactly like MacBook setting.

My main OS is Mac, so naturally I have to use Dell as my main monitor. smile.gif

but if I play games in 1080p using 2k monitor, the graphics may not look good, so I think better stick to native 1080p monitor. laugh.gif

yeah, get the one with displayport since that is important to use freesync or gsync. HDMI 2.1 only have support for it and this monitor only has HDMI 2.0 iinm.

When comparing the contrast ratios of the AOC 24G4 and the MSI PRO MP251 E2 monitors, the MSI PRO MP251 E2 offers a higher static contrast ratio of 1500:1, compared to the AOC 24G4's typical contrast ratio of 1000:1. This means the MSI monitor can display deeper blacks and brighter whites, providing more vivid images, which is beneficial for tasks like photo editing or watching movies.([Display Specifications][1])

However, the AOC 24G4 is designed with gaming in mind, featuring a higher refresh rate of 180Hz and a faster response time of 0.5ms (MPRT), compared to the MSI's 120Hz refresh rate and 1ms (MPRT) response time. This makes the AOC monitor more suitable for fast-paced gaming scenarios.([AOC][2])

Both monitors use IPS panels, offering wide viewing angles and good color reproduction. The MSI PRO MP251 E2 covers 99% of the sRGB color gamut, while the AOC 24G4 covers 126% of sRGB, indicating more vibrant colors.([MSI][3])

In summary, if your priority is higher contrast for better image depth, the MSI PRO MP251 E2 is the better choice. If you prioritize higher refresh rates and faster response times for gaming, the AOC 24G4 would be more suitable.([Display Specifications][1], [AOC][2])
