Cuepacs: Not all can work till 65

KUALA LUMPUR: The government should provide civil servants the option to retire at 60 if it plans to raise the mandatory retirement age to 65, said the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).

Secretary-general Abdul Rahman Mohd Nordin said while raising the retirement age may offer certain benefits, it could pose mental and physical challenges for some.

He said some civil servants might face serious health issues if they were required to continue working into their later years.

"However, extending the retirement age to 65 is subjective and depends on individual and social factors.

if the worker don't like to work till 65yo, solution is simple, resign la.

for those who want to opt to work till 65yo, up to them lor.

At least got option to retire till 65yo.

If want to retire earlier, its up to you, you can always give letter any time.

retire late is not something that can be avoided. it is reality.

the problem is you are denying promising youngster their deserved promotions.

when they become ketua jabatan or some shit, they already very old.

My Turkey colleague told me their retirement age is 40 years old to get gov pension.

Many people retire at that age to get peanut $$ from government

so what MEF say ?

yes u can resign before retirement age

but u see, they move their tail, we already know what they gonna do next. they gonna sync epf withdrawal age with the retirement age next

then u go resign at 55 la. then for 10 years u work grab until 65?

If they didnt touch KWSP withdrawal...... they can even upgrade till age 80..................

The problem is probably on the company that pay insurance for its employee. If the company policy said that company will only pay up to 60, then it would fall under discrimination

Cuepacs should look at what their members can get if they retire at 60

If majority of them don't have much, do they have a choice?

If there's not much, isn't working up to 65 a better option?

If they resign before the retirement age, they wont get their pension...i believe many gov servants just waiting for the retirement day so that can get free pension for life.

Humans live longer. Nowadays people still need income if they are still not dead yet. Not like 30-50 years ago, retire at 45, house & car fully paid.

We need to create much more jobs...or...extreme desperation to live will create wars.

why Gov want to increase retirement age:

1. Gov will reduce pension payout
2. Increase tax revenue

but nowadays got people who actually live beyond 100 years old.
top up a bit make it 200 years old to make sure everyone can work until confirm mati

If you're on pension, you will want reduced retirement age - See France
If you're on EPF/CPF style, you will want increased retirement age - See Singapore

Malaysia also same. can retire at 40years old. but will get pension amount at 55 only. unless retire due to health reason, can get pension immediately.

you will only receive pension at 55years old provided u have served min of 10 years (max 30 years to get 60% of basic pay) and above age of 40. so u can retire at 55 eventho u sign the borang until 60.

true story I see a lot of retirees in my PJ house neighborhood, like nyanyuk.

birth rates there are low, so most old men and women, no need to keep mind active to take care of grandchildren

I saw one old man, don't know what he does in his garden, every morning just rake the leaves, set it on fire, and stand there look at it.

then my father in law, every morning always go out to yum cha at nearby coffee shops start talking to other old men there.

So free, dunno what they do, every day My FIL sleeping.

On my way driving around PJ, I see the same old men walking here n there under the hot sun, don't know where they are going.

one of my retiree uncles, every day sit down play internet everyday, his adult children are not married, so no grandkids. He already half nyanyuk, need hearing aids, and tongkat to walk.

Not just sitting and stare at windows...if one no do exercise and squish abit brain juice, will kena also..

lets change the retirement age to 65, but same time allow the B40 to take out as much as they wish from epf...

rinse and wash and redo again... lol

When the retirement age increase from 55 to 60 you got see them work more efficiently?

So wat makes you think increase from 60 to 65 will have a different outcome?

The way I see it, the gahmen proposal to raise retirement age to 65, will be followed by raising the eligible age to withdraw EPF funds fully to 60 years from the current 55.

Dulu2 dem hard to withdraw EPF funds. Only allowed akaun 2 even then subject to so many syarat. Since Kobid days all kinds of excuse oso can take out the EPF money.
