I’ve been a loyal Lazada user for over 11 years, and this is the first time I’ve encountered something like this.

I recently purchased a washing machine on Lazada from a seller offering free shipping. Although the seller had no product reviews, I decided to proceed cautiously. I contacted both Lazada and the seller to verify the product’s authenticity. The seller assured me that the washing machine was original, sealed, and covered by a 1-year local manufacturer warranty, so I placed the order.

However, just a few hours later, my order was suddenly cancelled. I received an email stating it was due to “incorrect pricing.” Shortly after, I received a WhatsApp message from someone claiming to be from Lazada, asking me to make a payment to a Lazada bank account so they could deliver the washing machine the next day. I refused.

Before I rejected the message, they sent me my personal information via WhatsApp — including my full name, address, and phone number, to confirm if the billing and shipping details were correct.

Now, I’m genuinely concerned that our personal information may have been leaked to scammers. Could this pose a risk? Should I make a police report?

Lazada oredi say don't make any transactions out of Lazada app.

If salah pricing, usually seller will just message you n ask you to cancel order, won't ask to make payment outside of app.

As long as you never pay money. No problem.

If you scared just contact Lazada. If really got problem, report polis.

Also... Don't do deals outside of thee platform la. How much are you saving? Might as well just pay that little bit extra for the peace of mind.

Don't be penny wise pound foolish. Kan dah tak boleh tidur lena...

They obtained your full personal information from the order you made earlier with the print out slip that is generated by Lazada for delivery.

Rest assured your important IC and payment info like your payment card details info is still safe and not exposed. What the seller can see is your contact info and address only.

But in future, beware of call scams because your contact number has probably been recorded to be sold to black market...

When you make the payment the transaction is only between you and Lazada, only when you confirm you have received the item then only Lazada will release the payment to the seller via their own system. The seller cannot see your sensitive banking details and full account information such as your IC.

As for your full name, contact info number and address, that one is probably leaked or recorded by the seller since they need to print the delivery slip to ship out your parcel.

Your contact number is shown on the delivery sticker for the deliveryman to contact you just in case no one is available at the address to receive the item.

luckily u didnt transfer from your bank account to their bank account, if not few days later some 'ahlong' will transfer some money to your bank account then accuse u of making a loan with them, and ask u to pay back the money + crazy interests, then since they got your address they will send some macai to throw molotov into your house to scare you to pay them, many cases already

Oh..so lazada share ur hp number to seller? For shopee, seller only can see name and address, can't see hp number. Anyway, don't entertain seller that have no rating, there are too many scammers out there. They're fishing for people who have no time to request refund. Just buy from local especially something expensive and require warranty

If they already cancel the order, you should get back your payment on a later date. Then its case closed.

IF... IF LA.....

They send the full name & add detail as a form of intimidation. Hoping you would fall for it and paid the money. (Because out of platform, they can deny it ever happened)
This is con & ransom case.

BUT !!!!

If they never follow up the message, then just confirm they and you cancelled the order and life moves on.

Just to say that everybody data already out there in web. Your face and all your other transactions & posts are out there.

The good thing is YOU ARE NOT PERSON OF INTEREST. Not important enough to say like a politician to use resource to make your life miserable. Yes you kind of feel bad you are not interesting enough to be a target. BUT THAT IS A GOOD THING!!!

Differ from Shopee, as a seller, we can accept to the buyer information such as name, contact number & address (both billing address & delivery address), the moment we receive the order.

A very common trick from scammer is they offer to good to be true prices to lure cheapskate to buy from them. Then they will message the buyer personally to deal outside. Some buyer will deal with them out of platform due to greed.

What the seller is trying to do is extremely risky. He is trying to contact you directly bypassing the online merchant Lazada/Shopee with your contact info obtained and cancelling the deal after obtaining those details.

If anything happens you bank in directly to a scammer's account, no one can help you after this except it automatically becomes a police report for trade crime.

Lazada and Shopee cannot do anything to help you because the payment did not go through their channels.

It's risky like trading through Craigslist, FB postings, Carousell or Mudah which you deal directly with the seller.

Review also cannot caya one nowadays especially those 5 star reviews. Got many scammers using agents to buy fake 5 star reviews to push their items.

Only trustable reviews are the 1-stars complains. Most of the time they are the real genuine reviews. Do take extreme caution with the bad reviews with 1-2 stars because no one buy bad reviews icon_idea.gif

Nothing can be done because this is obviously a exploited loophole taken advantaged by the sellers.

Unless the online merchant hides the buyer personal info and only show transaction ID for the sticker printout by the seller. Only at the distribution hub after they receive the parcel from seller, then only they do 2nd printing to attach buyer's address/contact details before delivery.

It'll cost them extra work and expenditures.

Usually if 3rd party store can offer cheaper than even Official Store promo be extra careful, unless it's reputable stores such as Shopee Mart/Lazada Warehouse most are scams or dubious sources. Some are returned good, used ones rejected, imported items.

Lazada haven't release payment to seller. You will receive refund. Don't worry

Just ignore the Whatsapp. The scammer is hopping you'll fall for the trick. Their modus operandi probably is with 10 that they reject, probably 1 will fall for the trick to bank in the $$

Yes sellers do get all our info, shopee included. Had sellers calling me to choose different variant when the variant I wanted is sold out. All because I didn't check my shopee chat. Lucky it's genuine seller.

i have buy pc parts from RM500 to RM3k, audio product even RM1.3k its fine as long from reputable store

but most important is buy from lazada or shopee stick the payment thru them..dont go gatal see good deal they tell pay them not thru platform..like that sure get scam

always use head to think and be vigilant
