Hi peeps, i em planning for a week roadtrip from JB to Penang and i em looking to rent a car, perhaps a spacious car like 6 seater or 7 seater. Any recommended & reliable platform/ app/ car rental service can share? I have a baby and elderly, safety of the car is one of my concern.
Been reading reviews of GoCar & Trevo, the experience shared are too horrible for me to try their service.
Thanks in advance~! tongue.gif

Just curious. Why is gocar and Trevor bad?

Not tried Trevo but I know a few friends rents out cars on the platform.

Maybe can try SoCar. I have rented from that platform a few times and has been good. If you renting a week then the mileage limitations isn't a problem. The daily allocation is quite generous.

socar/gocar is your only option if you want unlimited mileage

just make sure you buy the mileage package in socar accordingly as it cannot be added later after the booking
so far my experience with socar: all the car i rented reeks, so prepare your own fabreeze/air sanitizer (i've rented CX5/X70/Corolla Cross/Ioniq, most are around 40-50k km mileage, with the exception of cx5, which is 120k km)
car works pretty ok mechanically, no weird sound, drives straight, brakes well, corners well, suspension still works and bushing intact, so it's pretty refined
one thing to note though, most of the case you'll get rojak tires all round (i.e. 3x brand A, and 1x brand B, or 2x A and 2x B)

i've only rented gocar once, the car is very new (3k km only, still have the new car smell) so it's as good as what you can get

u can go check the google reviews, most with 1 star, the main problems are car not maintained and broke down in the middle of the road, driver not picking up calls, couldn't find customer service and onli can chat with AI bots, kenot imagine if this happen to me when i em with my baby and elderly

lucky u! some of the review say that their car full of roaches, got animal smell, no spare tyre, windscreen was fogged up, car was shaky, requested to change another car but with own expense. sounds like no total solutions for customers, but one good thing with Trevo is that the post has the contact number of car owner, seems like the platform leaves customer to do the due diligence with the car owner.

I ever rent SOCAR before....usually for few hours. I like their feature where to can send the car over to you...or pick up the car from you...don't have to return to the designated location.

But don't remember they have 6/7 seater...especially in JB...also you need to pay for mileage...so need to calculate your budget

"OP I had similar experience as well while renting from SOCAR for my Penang trip. Wasn’t aware of their mileage package and i was charged RM60 for the mileage used. Overall fee for 2 days and few hours rental costs me RM400+
In my opinion, for short term rental (few hours rental, not overnight) SOCAR is ok-ish but if you wish to rent for days better opt for Trevo car sharing platform as the fees are more transparent".
Last time when i always got SoCar promo voucher from Maxis app, i hv tried to book SoCar during weekend for hourly use, never explore how does the daily use/ cross state charges are like.
Trevo is the sub of SoCar, it has 200km free mileage per day, let's say if i rent a week, i got 1400km to spend, extra 1km is rm1. i em ok to top up mileage, i em just worry abt the car condition, the review says that the car condition was totally diff with the post, if want to cancel and ask for swap car, at own expense.

Don't know about GoCar but If you are willing to pay the hourly rate, SOCAR it is. Since you are using for a week then maybe not SOCAR. It's company public car (imagine it like Beam scooter in KL) and can be lock/unlock with bluetooth.

Depends where and what car you pick up from, has seen some cars especially Axia that got infested with cockroaches. Some premium cars like X50, X70, Toyota Cross are all damn clean, except that 1 time X50 don't know which idiot ate nasi kandar in the damn car, made a mess all over the shift handle, YUCKS.

Upside is fuel can be claimed if you help pump the fuel before you return the car, make sure you keep the receipts and claim through apps.

for Trevo really depends on which car you rented from, so far the cars that I had picked up for Trevo delivery are all nice and clean (other than the excessive car perfume/diffuser/freshener, I seriously hate it). Unlike SOCAR there will be about maybe 20% chance the SOCAR will be thrashed by previous user when I came pick it up.

I have seen some Trevo owners that really examine the cars from top to bottom when the car got returned to them from customer, and especially the fuel remaining. Because for Trevo rules you need to return with the same amount of fuel when you received, e.g. 2 bar out of 8 bars then must be the same, but best to just pump 1 bar higher because car delivery itself already gonna spend some fuel. Some Trevo owners also would love to charge the customer for trash fees if got left any trash when the car returned, like one

from your experience, did u contact the car owner in private to get the actual conditions of the car? like the car service sticker photo, tyre age, etc?
if bad luck like your case, u got no choice but to send the car for a car wash before hitting the road, will it be claimable?

Not sure for Trevo but SOCAR yes you can, maximum RM20 or 30 I forgot. Have to contact the customer service agent and ask first, and STRICTLY need receipt with company stamp on it or else SOCAR will reject. Have to ask the car wash whether they will give receipt with stamp or not before they start washing the car. And some photos for proof:
1. Before start sending to car wash - take pictures proof it's dirty + arrival at the car wash place
2. During car wash - take pictures of the car getting washed/ crews washing and/or vacuuming the car
3. After car wash - take pictures of after car wash

For SOCAR usually I don't send to car wash because no time/sending car during midnight and there is no car wash service open.

But pretty sure for Trevo owner has to make sure the car is okay before delivering the car to you/agent deliver the car to you/or you pick it up yourself. You can reject the car if the car is deemed not to be fit for driving before you press accept car - e.g. punctured tyre, broken headlight, missing side mirror. All the other details like the tyre year and when was the car's last service that one I don't really check on it as long as it's drive able + no big obvious damages such as missing/broken bumper.

If the damages were there when you picked up the car, just take photos of it as proof that the damages were there when you first got it to avoid getting penalized. This applies to both SOCAR and Trevo.
