Certain quarters love to tell minorities to assimilate and integrate to be 'proper' citizens.
But just look at the Peranakan. Families that have hundreds of years of history living in Malaya are somehow still not considered Bumi. They speak Malay fluently to the point of having poetry battles during their wedding ceremonies. But no, they are still not Bumi. Neither are the Chetti. |

Stupid to say this. If business owners don't at least like this country then they won't operate their business here. Build factory, hire people to work and pay tax because they fucking hate this place?
And then there are assholes who failed to consider this point but would rather ask hypothetically if any of us would fight and die to defend this country in a war. Realistically we are not at war, but the nation still needs preserving. This is what a reasonable person would admit. We, as in reasonable Malaysians, fought to defend the very essence of this nation - the constitution, the society that it fosters and the democracy that sustains it - by being informed and trying to vote in the most suitable government by our reasoning. We provide feedback to the government when we feel it has not been true to the above. Why do reasonable, patriotic Malaysians do that? Well, we like saying Selamat Pagi to our neighbors. We love to be able to buy nasi lemak for breakfast and char siew rice for lunch. We like to begin our sentences with dei, weh, and ala... or add bah or lah or lor at the end of every other sentence. We love the fact that it don't look out of place if a woman puts on a baju kurung or kebaya or sari or qipao. This is our way of life. We did not see every disagreement as a challenge or disrespect to our ill-defined rights or an illusory social structure. Reasonable, patriotic Malaysians do not use this to inflame and teach others to hate on other Malaysians. We see it as work in progress for building what we hope to be a stable society able to make progress in the right direction. Every reasonable Malaysian wants what the other does - a fair chance. That underlines what a patriotic, reasonable Malaysian has - hopes and aspirations. Our hopes and aspirations are planted deep in this nation and our continued existence in it. We do not dream of a nation devoid of others who don't look or speak like us or share our religious beliefs. We see all others as fellow participants very much like you and me pulling a cart together, and picture of my arriving at the destination very much includes you. So please do not question or make assumptions regarding the patriotism of a reasonable Malaysian, very much like this man in the video had done. |

Everyone obviously knows smoking is bad. Why they still spend so much money to do campaign that says smoking is bad? To create awareness. Obviously you didn’t see the obvious. |
