Has anyone know of or heard of the possibility of being scammed when selling your own car to someone unknown?

I'm trying to sell my car at the moment (old car not applicable for HP loan anymore) and recently received an enquiry.
He claimed to be a broker from Sabah (red flag to me) and is interested to buy my car to be sold to his customer or whatever. It seems like he wants to offer personal loan to whoever is buying from him.

So he's gonna arrange for viewing in the next few days (not sure what's gonna happen next) and he did mentioned that if his buyer asked about the price, he wants me to ask the buyer to refer back to him.

Has anyone heard of such modus operandi?

I guess if he's really a genuine buyer, we can wait until payment is fully cleared into my account before proceeding with any thumbprint procedure and keys handover.

Saw a few case on the Rolex watch scam where cheque were given and then bounced back - was hoping this might not be the case.

Make sure only to accept cash or bank transfer no cheque. If want cheque, only accept bank draft or banker's cheque. Nothing else.

Still can kena ABC , ya betul money inside yr account but if they report u also kena spit out the money .

Banker's cheque safe la. It is cheque from a bank which is basically as good as cash.

Personal or company cheques don't accept.

Always allows 3 working days to clear before signing anything. Signing is ok but don't thumbprint. Without the thumbprint, the ownership cannot transfer.

question? lets say i lost the banker chq, cant i go to the bank and say i lost it?

-This fellar has a locked Facebook profile with no profile picture, name also different from whoever who contacted me
-Immediately asked for Whatsapp number upon contact (even tho I already left my contact in the listing)
-Uses a business Whatsapp account without any business details

Cannot. The bank will charge again to cancel the missing cheque and again to reissue. Usually, people won't lose it so easily.

scam money is 1 thing. Another thing is make sure your car is really legally transferred ownership. Mana tau diorang guna ur car go rob a bank, and it traced back to u still being the owner

Prefer if black and white but normally me sell is buyer bank in money I settle puspakom what not then go jpj thumbprint transfer. I transfer to friend but outsider better black and white la if want to be safe.

You have to do thumbprint first before buyer release payment. That’s how private car sales are done

The risk is with the buyer if you don’t do thumbprint after he make full payment

I experienced selling 2 cars before. Other replies above I can see no experience at all so take their advise with pinch of salt

TS is then a scammer on semakmule

This step still can kena ABC la , seller always lose out regardless of all payment method that why need be be extra careful not kena . If victim die die also want his money back u literally will on the hook for this , police will side victim regardless what u say one .

If can direct deal with the ppl who want buy the car . If u really kena ABC scam u will have a police case on u . U can't apply for the good citizen police report thing ( if one day u need it then u literally just shoot yr self )

Never transfer ownership until you received full payment from the buyer

Nowadays don't even need thumbprint if both the seller and buyer have JPJ mysikap. Everything can be done online

It's the other way round. After transfer over the ownership then only receive payment

What happen if buyer don't pay? The ownership already under the buyer name. He can claim the car is his based on record alone. More trouble on your side to deal with things only.

It's like sending an item over before receiving the money.

Anyway I sold my car few months ago, after received full payment only I transfer the ownership to new owner. Deal in person, no problems at all.

Can show evidence to JPJ and reverse it. He's selling an old car. So many risk to buyer buying a problematic car.
If buyer already transfer money then seller don't transfer ownership...not easy to reverse payment....so risk in this transaction is higher for buyer

TS is seller... of course we are offering advice from sellers perspective lah . As a seller we obviously would prefer full payment before transferring ownership over.

As a buyer you would think otherwise of course. But in the end trading online is all about trust and being smart.
