Itu bukan murah.
Itu hampir harga City baru, S70 atau Ativa AV spec sekarang.
Orang zaman dulu pun struggle.
Gaji masa tu RM1,000 – RM1,500 sebulan.
Nak beli Kancil, tetap kena loan 7–9 tahun.
Jadi kalau hari ni kau rasa “dulu semua murah”,
hakikatnya dulu pun tetap susah tapi bezanya dulu tak ada iPhone, tak ada Shopee, tak ada GrabFood.
Masalah bukan pada harga.
Harga barang naik sebab inflasi, ya.
Tapi kenapa kuasa beli rakyat tak naik sama?
Sebab gaji naik 1%, harga naik 10%.
Sebab sistem sokong kroni, bukan pengguna.
Sebab yang kaya makin kaya, yang tengah makin terhimpit.
Kancil 1994 bukan murah.
Ia mahal untuk zaman itu.
Dan kalau kau nak faham realiti ekonomi, jangan banding harga TAPI banding kuasa beli.
Tak setuju? Takpa.
Aku tetap pilih fakta berbanding fantasi.
Prinsip berbanding persepsi.
Persoalannya, jika kau ada kelayakan pinjaman RM72,000 (tempoh 7tahun) dengan monthly RM1055 kau nak sambar kereta atau rumah?
Pemilik kancil munculkan diri. Have2 depa ni.

all I know if you are b40 and earn under rm1500 back then, you can try your luck applying gomen subsidy house under PKNS. RM 25,000, either landed or flat.

that was before 1996. so yes, one brand new kancil can get a house already.

this is in section 24, shah alam. basic 2 rooms house

QUOTE
A car priced at $10,000 in 1975 would cost approximately $78,198 in 2025, adjusted for inflation.
Malaysia's Macrotrends website provides historical inflation rates that can be used to calculate the adjusted price.
The Inflation Calculator can also be used to estimate the future value of money based on inflation rates.

Car price is actually the only thing that's gone down over the years. 40k today is actually maybe only worth 20k 20 years ago, so essentially you are paying less but you are also getting a car that has 7 airbags and autonomous safety features compared to just a steering wheel and 4 seats back then.

this is true

that kancil 660 is basically a very basic car, we tend to see it cheap now. no airbag, no abs, no shit at all

I surprise people don't realize this:-

houses, food, education, services all the necessities all increase a lot. People of the past has higher purchasing power for these products.

"Products" such as cars, computer, electrical appliances, phone are actually cheaper than the past.

2 rooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen sink outside, 1 shared area for living room/dining, corner lot

Now 4 rooms, still 1 bathroom but toilet separate.
all covered and paved, can fit 2 cars inside gate, 2 cars private parking outside.
kitchen took the whole backyard space.
1 area for living room, 1 for area for TV/dining

I surprise people don't realize this:-

houses, food, education, services all the necessities all increase a lot. People of the past has higher purchasing power for these products.

"Products" such as cars, computer, electrical appliances, phone are actually cheaper than the past.
*
House yes. Food and services maybe, I argue that it has increased but not to the scale of other global prices. Say watching a movie for example, it's still cheap in Malaysia compared to China or Singapore or even Bangkok.

exactly,

TV only 3 channel,
no ASTRO, Netflix

No so panas back then, kipas is enuff,
now my home got 8 airconds and always on cause so panas

House phone only, no internet
now got to pay Unifi and upgrade phone at least every 2-3 years

We eat lunch at home during weekdays cause parents can go back during lunch hour
Sometimes we pay people to cook and send multi layer Kaleng to our home.
Now all eat outside, every single person during lunch time

Still go out eat on weekend but only daytime,
we rarely go at night cause back then only night time food court open, no choices
Now, 4am still can bring family eat a full meal outside

No expensive daycare, tuition or play school
we just send to grandparents house, my aunt takes care of us all.
If not, dad just dump us at state library after school.

Kuching. I think same price
Now last time I heard, just around 250k

I moved out already but my brother takes over the home.
ceiling is okay, still need ladder to fix lampu

Ceiling board still stands, maybe a bit bocor here and there
Atap still okay, we lived there in early 80s. so 50 years?
one segment got wooden wall, still stands today
pipes, electrical still okay.

The only problem was some tiles got retak due to construction nearby, got pampasan
renovated and all fine till today

Car price is actually the only thing that's gone down over the years. 40k today is actually maybe only worth 20k 20 years ago, so essentially you are paying less but you are also getting a car that has 7 airbags and autonomous safety features compared to just a steering wheel and 4 seats back then.
*
Technology gets better and cheaper with time ma
Manufacturers found ways to optimize efficiency of production also...

Last time one supercomputer cost few million now a phone cost few hundred also can rival it

Serious, he is devil.

Free tax + 0 down payment + 1.5% to 1.75% bank interest. Go office n sign paper, you own a property already.

it is always relative to salary not global prices.

I remember chicken rice being RM1.80 in the early 90s. The same shop(obviously different owner) now in my housing area, cost like rm11 now.

They have less commitment in housing , insurance, children education.

In the past my parents used to say how lucky the current generation is.

I told them my monthly expenses for children daycare, bus fare, education etc can buy 6 terrace houses in PJ in the early 90s.
My yearly insurance payment is equivalent to a yearly 1 PJ house loan installment in the early 90s.

They never dared to complain after that.

The property value spike up is not because of Najib
The 2008–2009 U.S. stock crisis led to the launch of Quantitative Easing (QE) to stimulate the economy, which eventually diluted the value of money and contributed to a spike in property prices in Malaysia.

because RM lose value against Thai baht. RM1 used to be THB10. introduction of Excise Duty just to protect local cars. compare langkawi price dan semenanjung price.

The Proton Saga, Malaysia's first national car, was launched in 1985 with a launch price of RM 17,757 for the 1.3L variant and RM 19,005 for the 1.5L variant

if adjusted to today price, holy cow

back then ringgit actually have higher purchasing power, when 1 SGD= 1 MYR

just the fact that our currency loose value real fast

The property value spike up is not because of Najib
The 2008–2009 U.S. stock crisis led to the launch of Quantitative Easing (QE) to stimulate the economy, which eventually diluted the value of money and contributed to a spike in property prices in Malaysia.
