Yes indeed some of them can be downright assholes. The phrase "tuhao"(土豪) was once in widespread use to refer to the nouveau riche country bumpkins whose heads and egos were swollen with pride and a sense of entitlement. Some local BolehLandian chinese are no better than them.

Easiest way is explore unbeaten path. Stay away of major hotels, restaurant and attraction, explorer nearby local residential places for food sleep.
Not all PRC tourists are bad behaviour but the population size are just too large, so chances of meeting a rotten eggs are high unfortunately. This post has been edited by azack: Apr 30 2025, 08:48 AM |

Actually even in China, you get this especially in rural hotels in China. They will speak loudly along the corridors even late night/early morning. And they smoke in their rooms with doors open… the whole floor stinks of smoke. I experienced this a lot in China during my work trips. Not all PRC tourists are bad behaviour but the population size are just too large, so chances of meeting a rotten eggs are high unfortunately. |

what is more important is how we craft our response when meeting these folks to change their behaviour or if that is too much to hope for, punish bad behaviour. recently i saw a Thai video who take offence at a white tourist for using 'Ni hao' against him knowing he is Thai and not Chinese. rebuke the mat salleh and ended the service on the spot. refuse to give them ride on boat. we should emulate him. money worth nothing without respect. minister should understand this and side with locals and not become their bodyguard like a farking traitor shit.
