Hi guys i have a question here .... lets say i have these 2 CPUs, both running at 2.8Ghz ... may i know Which is better? http://www.techpowerup.com/cpudb/272/Intel...ium_4_2.8C.htmlcoz from wat i think ... the 478 has better FSB and running HT but doenst has SSE3 ... http://www.techpowerup.com/cpudb/440/Intel...tium_4_511.htmlthe 775 has lower FSB but has SSE3, and bigger cache (L1 and L2) ... so ... who wins? thanks!

In both of this,i would say the proc running in HT is better in term of performance.SSE3 is using in some encoding work in movie only.

Assuming both using the same RAM, same harddisk, chipset and other else, I say the 2.8C wins. Prescott core has deeper pipeline compared to Northwood, so for clock-to-clock Northwood wins

QUOTE(best_haiyod @ Nov 11 2007, 09:33 PM) to be honest both suxs Is this a way to give a comment or help to the thread starter?I know you are rich enough to get decent new cores. I'm still left behind will old old P4 but i think they are enough for my usage. Please don't insult people here.

@Ray Dont flame my fren.. See his join date.. Just a rookie. But anyways, best_haiyod next time when u wanna reply something, brain before ur hand. Here is a place to discuss yet not to insult. @TS Yea. I agreed with Najmods words. If compare on stock speed, clock to clock northwood or the P4 proc ends with C will be better then Prescott which end with E. But in term of overclocking, Prescott core will shine when running on high FSB.

QUOTE(Christopher_LKL @ Nov 11 2007, 09:31 PM) ^- okie thanks for all the info but deeper pipeline? hmm clock-to-clock? mind telling me wats that in brief? thanks Its a technical detail really, on how CPU works, deeper pipeline has the benefits, you can ramp the clock speed more but if the something 'broken' within the pipeline, the entire thing needs to be flushed and start anew. So the 20 stage Northwood is faster to recover from this compared to 31 stage Prescott. If you want to understand Pentium 4 architecture, or more specifically NetBurst microarchitecture read here (I actually read the whole lot two years ago): http://xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/netburst-1.htmlPrescott vs Northwood: http://xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/prescott.htmlIf you start to go of the technical detail then just go with the Northwood, its cooler and less power hungry than the Prescott EDIT: Spelling error, adding Prescott vs. Northwood This post has been edited by Najmods: Nov 11 2007, 10:27 PM
