inheritance tax, maintenance(all the fees you have to pay), if you don't wanna keep the house as it is, u also need to pay someone to throw it away

I'd buy it for 1 yen

1 yen?
there are a lot of free houses in japan waiting for people to take over them
this applies to locals or foreigners...basically anyone

but only very small minority would actually do it

Believe it or not, even if the inheritance tax were completely zero, many people still won't want these houses because it's just no value to alot of these houses.

The biggest issue is these houses are located in bum fuck nowhere.

Try la if the house were in nice neighborhood in Tokyo, Osaka etc. Those houses confirm will be taken.
*
nope
there are quite a few vacated houses in very strategic location....not inherited and it's completely free

still no takers

Then what the issue then? The house very small? Very close to red light district?

There is always some issue.

No one rejects free things.
*
the issue is all the taxes, then u have to spend all the money cleaning it before you can start "building" it

buying a used house in japan isn't same like here where everything just throw to the street laugh.gif

there's a lot of money going out before you even start your step one unlike buying a new house...after you got the key, that's the beginning of step one

wonder why japan got no squatter  illegally take it over, give it a paint and illegally rent it out on AirBnB
*
because they don't know what is the backstory of that residence(so pantang)

secondly, they don't do anything illegal(their jail is no fun)
thirdly...cleaning that residence cost a small fortune

so even if u do it legally, the house is completely free....well, it's still not really free laugh.gif

THE HOUSE is free....THE HOUSE laugh.gif

inheritance tax is not the only tax u gotta pay bro...stop thinking there's only one u have to pay
even here in malaysia even the house is literally free
