Got the offer just now, RM90 500mbps, 600min call, 1-year Hotstar.

You get public IP or private IP from Unifi ?

I think the reason they didn't ask you to sign up whatever Unifi Mobile postpaid 39 nonsense on the spot like what the TM agent did to jacktiew is because you specifically mentioned Astro, which jacktiew didn't (according to his post).

And then on the next day, which is after you've agreed to the SWU plan of 500Mbps RM90, another Unifi agent called you and tried upselling their Unifi postpaid 69 plan with a free phone to you. Whether you agree or not, it's okay, because "at least they've tried".

I think that's a very smart move of them. Imagine that they got to know that you "got an offer from Astro" (whether it's true or not, it doesn't matter) and then they make it mandatory for you to bundle it with their Unifi Postpaid plan upon accepting their SWU offer of 500Mbps RM90... If they do this to you, there's a higher chance that you might reject their SWU offer altogether because they require you to bundle with Unifi postpaid plan (although no contract) while Astro Fibre actually don't do such bundling mobile postpaid plan nonsense. They need to make it convincing that their retention offer is better than the other ISP first.

So that's their strategy that they want you to agree to stay on their service first, then only upsell you another different offer later, especially after you mentioned Astro to them.

Well played, TM rclxms.gif

My opinion is the same as yours.

I went to TM Point.

1. First thing I told them , I wanna check my contract whether expired or not.
2. I provided my IC, verify thumbprint . Then the customer service ask why wanna check contract.
3. I told em straight that Astro called me and offered 90 bucks for 500mbps package. So I wanna jump ship.
4. She counter offer saying TM also has the same promotion now.
5. I had to ask whether got Disney Hotstar free or not, then only tell me need to check. ANd confirm ada.

However, unlike last time when I signed up for the first SWU package 3 years ago, they had to schedule appointment to give me a new router, this time punya SWU5.0 don't have free router but still kena 24 months contract. ANyhow I don't need the router, but for those who want that router, this is something to take note .

I think people who kena con to sign up for Unifi Mobile is those that never mention Astro's offer and straight away skip all the steps and demand 90 bucks for 500mbps. I did mine with the steps above, TM never mention anything about Unifi Mobile at all to me.

Hi Sifus, if lightning strike and causing the modem and my owned router KO. 100% sure from the fiber optic cable. What I can do next?
*
You kena lightning strike and damaged both modem and router. That one cannot come from fiber optic cable. Fiber optic cable inside is made of some sort of glass, and glass cannot conduct electricity.

So the lightning strike can only damage your equipment via 2 routes:

1. Voltage spikes from your power adaptor. Even if you have surge protector , they are not 100% fail proof. From power adaptor, either 1 of them, voltage spikes can run through your LAN cable from modem to router, damaging both.

2. EMP . When lightning strikes a nearby object, it can generate a powerful electromagnetic pulse (EMP) that radiates through the air. This EMP can induce voltage spikes in any electrical circuit within range, including those in unplugged electronics, potentially damaging their internal components. The only way you can prevent this is to install lightning rod at your house.

Any input? Thanks.

I think if you use your own router to dial the PPPoE , you can set public DNS yourself.
If you use that 2in1 modem+router that TM provides you, I have no idea whether you can set public DNS on that device as the firmware is custom made for TM.
Probably you have better security on your own router as well since TM routers always have that TR-069 backdoor which I'm very uncomfortable with. And some routers do have anti virus built-in. My TPLink AX50 does.

Should be no issue to set public DNS. Just that if using AP connection for mesh. I don't need help from Tm technical for the setup. And I can have additional AX3000 bandwidth (currently turn on 5Ghz only using 160Mhz) for Gaming purpose only in diff channel as the AP router.

But I have no idea in terms of performance. Isit better to use the DLINK as Modem only and connect another router using PPPOE.

Thanks.
*
The main reason i prefer to use my own router to dial PPPoE is because of security. I don't trust ppl working in TM . They can remotely access the modem , no problem. I don't want them to have any chance of remotely accessing my router through TR-069.

For you though since you have 1Gbit subscription , from what i know TM provided modem+router for your package only has 2.5Gbit WAN port. All the LAN ports on the device are all 1Gbit. You might gain minimal performance on WiFi if you use TM device for wireless access because you do receive full 1Gbit from TM. Anything that goes thru the LAN port on that TM device , max out at best around 980mbps only as 1Gbit LAN port has some overhead.

How long did TM take to complete your order ? My request put in past 24 hours , still no progress like that. Last time I did for SWU 1.0, within a day already updated the service plan.
Dunno why TM so slow. doh.gif

So, it wasn't really an upgrade as it is the same 500Mbps, just change plan from SWU 3.0 to 5.0. tongue.gif
*
If you calculate cost for 2 years, SWU 3.0 is actually cheaper.

RM119 for 300mbps, 6 months free, upgrade to 500mbps for free. RM126.15 X 18 months = RM2270.70 < Cost for 2 years incl 6% sst

RM90 for 500mbps . RM95.4 X 24 months = Rm2289.60 < Cost for 2 years incl 6% sst.

Provided that you don't really need Hotstar

No free 6 months for RM90 for 500mbps. Only free Disney+ Hotstar (Basic) for a year.

Giving up already. Went to TMPoint at Menara TM, said the same thing, SWU 5.0 - 500mbps at RM139 free 6mths.
Asked why so many others getting 500mbps at RM90, they kept asking for proof, give account # to verify.  confused.gif

Probably need to switch to Astro already. How good/bad is Astro fibre?  cry.gif

Try go TM Point Cyberjaya if you can.

I wonder can this method used on current existing SWU 4.0 user (more than 12 months)

Like go there say xxx fibre offering me RM90 for 500mbps, what is the procedure to switch there and how much penalty will kenak?

Will they still do counter-offer ?
*
I think since your contract still not expire, they won't give you this offer because your SWU 4.0 already got free 6 months subscription.
Besides some SWU 4.0 contract is 36 months if you take their TV.

Conclusion is, contract not expired, then no bargaining power.

Just got my unifi mobile sim cancelled. So far no effect on my fibre plan.
Now must just wait for my prorated refund for the sim card, and wait for my new bill for fibre to confirm that everything is okay happy.gif
*
I think the Unifi Mobile mandatory bundle with SWU plan is a scam. It's just the TM Point branch want to meet their monthly subscription quota.
If you look at TM webpage. All postpaid Unifi Mobile plan have no contract. So they tell you 3 months subscription minimum is purely a way to hit the branch KPI.
What I think is, once your SWU plan order is completed and reflected in unifi selfcare portal, you can terminate the Unifi Mobile immediately.

Old user who previously starts using SWU from 300mbps free upgrade to 500mbps and free upgrade again to 800mbps and the bill doesnt change and perpetual.
*
I don't think so.
I was using SWU 1.0 until few days ago , that time don't even have free 6 months.
RM129/300mbps.
There was only 1 time free upgrade for me since beginning of the contract, so mine went from 300mbps to 500mbps.

My parents account is on SWU 2.0 with 6 months free.
Also RM129/300mbps
Same thing, only once upgraded from 300mbps to 500mbps.
This one contract expiring in Sept this year.

Must be some very old plan before SWU or special deal from 3rd party agent.

wondering how you guys notice the internet is slow?
example:
- Specify website will more obviously slow?
- Online video streaming slow down?
- you run speedtest every day to monitor?

Want to ask:
I'm using ZTE GPON ONT, ZXHN F620 (ONU) + own router, so far working stable.
I get a FOC Huawei GPON (HG8240H5) from my fren, I plug in fiber and connect LAN cable to LAN1, my router cannot connect to internet.
Is there any setting for the Huawei? Of Huawei unit had been locked to the specific ISP?
Which is better between these 2 GPON? ZTE or Huawei?
*
Did you configure the ONT authentication for your replacement ONU ?
It is not plug and play you know ? This is not Streamyx.

I remember last time I did try on another ONU, if not mistaken is plug-n-play (pnp).
Thanks for the screenshot.
what's the info (password) that I need to keyin ? where is the serial number I can get from?
use PC connect with LAN cable into LAN1 on that Huawei ?
*
The password is ONU password. Not the same as the PPPOe authentication password.
Last time i manage to get the password from my old ONU. If not , its quite difficult to get it from TM even if you call their helpline, they wont give you easily.

I didnt set the serial number. It is by default there already.

Maybe you can have a look at this tutorial.

Thanks for the tips. Now I need to get ONT authentication code.
I never know need a code for ONU, wondering how to get the code? Call Unifi? Ask the technician who just setup for my new Combo Box?
How to identifiy that my IP is public or Private?
Each time router reboot, I'll get new IP = Is public?
*
Call Unifi and tell them your ONU not working. Let the tech come and setup for you if you cannot manage to get your ONT authentication password . Dont tell them you got a replacement ONU. Kasi con them come to your house , see your huawei ONU not working , then let them configure.

What package you use ? If 500mbps and above is public IP. 300mbps and below all private IP for Unifi.
If Maxis , anyhow u just need to add 10 bucks every month to get public IP .
To confirm whether you have public IP , just login to your router . See that IP address that the router shows match the IP address that speedtest.net shows you. If they are the same, means you get public ip. If different means you get private IP.

TM only give you static IP when you subscribe Unifi Biz package. Unifi Home package tarak punya.
You are getting public IP , but its not static . Yours should be dynamic.
