Hi all, I'm a fresh graduate who had a marketing internship - niche but basic IT support role - now getting a SAP FICO functional consultant offer to start in couple months.
All in the same MNC.
I don't mind which path to take, I just want the one with higher earning potential in a corporate setting.
I graduated in something like psychology so basically I have no bachelors to back me up if anyone would wanna look at academics...
During my IT support stint, I felt a barrier because I couldn't be involved in certain technical discussions.
I'm worried if it will limit my career progression with SAP FICO since I'm neither IT nor Finance.
And idk how long will SAP FICO last, if it's still lucrative...

I'm also job seeking for marketing exec roles, including Singapore, but I haven't gotten any calls yet. Marketing has a clearer career progression from junior exec - senior - manager... as usual, provided if I am able to advance. But it highly depends on the field you'll be in.

These are very different fields but I believe i can do well in both. Committing to one field is the hardest part.

I'll take the SAP FICO offer now since I don't have anything else, but I can't have HR raising eyebrows at my resume again should i wanna jump to one field or the other.

Any advice? Which career has better prospects considering my situation?

Thanks!

Take the SAP FICO role. It’s higher paying, in demand, and gives you solid experience in a global MNC. You can still pivot later if marketing calls to you, but this puts you in a better position, both financially and professionally.

Don’t worry about not having an IT or finance degree. Most functional consultants start like that and learn on the job. Later, if you want to switch, your resume will show adaptability and business systems knowledge, which is valuable in any field

In the industry I work in, SAP FICO is used in the AR and AP transactions. You should go with that.

SAP consultant is not everyone's cup of tea.

But is ok, you can try to see if you like it or not.

I had an ex staff, she tried to do SAP consultant, turns out it was a struggle, she could not take the late nights, and figure out the constant requests from customers and telling programmers what to do. She also struggled to present out and find solution for the SAP configuration and flow design.

Not saying you will end up like her, maybe you will do much better. who knows ? I personally known some who did well.
