Here's another example of a scam call centre CCTV network being infiltrated by a professional investigator.
From the video it is shown they are using a Dahua PVR solution. This post has been edited by petpenyubobo: Mar 3 2025, 07:26 PM |

QUOTE(petpenyubobo @ Mar 3 2025, 07:11 PM) I'd argue that it's unlikely for the average person to be infiltrated via this methodUsually, these videos, they gain full access to the scammer's pc, hence they can capture all the data from the pc, and most likely since the PC is on the same network as the PVR, they can traverse the network and access it from the PC. I don't think most typical home users have to worry about this |

QUOTE(PRSXFENG @ Mar 3 2025, 07:54 PM) I'd argue that it's unlikely for the average person to be infiltrated via this method Most home users will not require as many cam setups like those in the call centres. IP-Cams through cloud based accounts will work just fine and secure enough. You might not have as much options than self managed centralized PVR type like the one shown but your network is at risk since once they get hold of your router, all other devices will be discoverable.Usually, these videos, they gain full access to the scammer's pc, hence they can capture all the data from the pc, and most likely since the PC is on the same network as the PVR, they can traverse the network and access it from the PC. I don't think most typical home users have to worry about this Do you see the last video, they even traced till the boss's own laptop and hijacked his microphone. Make public announcement through the 2-way Xiaomi cams to the room asking them asking the staffs why are you scamming people? |

I do agreed that some old firmware of the DVR/NVR can be easily hacked by a Pro.
But if the device is updated with the latest firmware version and using Cloud based with 2FA/MFA enabled ... I think it is secured enough for a normal user. All those youtube videos about hacking a scam centre etc. are mostly done by a Pro... these guys are really Pro & they have the skills, experience & tools to do it. I can say they are "Ethical Hacker" and not those ill-intentions type. Also most CCTV Cameras are installed on perimeter & maybe a few pointing towards the entrance/windows etc. Seldom they will install in Living hall or similar places (eg. Bedroom) Thus there's nothing much for the hackers to gain from accessing a Home device, that's just my POV lar... Anyway, how you want to setup & secured it is always the Owner's own responsibility. You can even get a Professional advice from the installer to assist in those settings but they seldom will ask you, so you need to ask them instead. Most vendors will just follow default settings... Just my 2cents worth... don't zap me.... |
