The government is considering providing additional social assistance to refugees registered with both the government and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), including granting them legal employment rights in Malaysia.

However, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said the specifics of this proposal are still being refined, taking into account labour requirements and conditions across various sectors, according to a report in Malay daily Berita Harian today.

She stated that this approval would only be finalised once all refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia are officially registered with the government.

“Currently, the government is implementing National Security Council Directive No. 23: Policy and Mechanism for Managing Refugees and Asylum Seekers (2023 revision), which was signed by the prime minister on June 14, 2023.

“This directive serves as the government’s framework for supervising and managing refugees and asylum seekers in Malaysia, outlining the roles and responsibilities of each involved government agency,” she said.

She made these remarks in a written response to a question from Teresa Kok Suh Sim (PH-Seputeh) in the Dewan Rakyat, who asked whether UNHCR-recognised refugees could be granted legal employment as a measure to address the country’s labour shortage.

Expanding on the matter, Zaliha noted that Malaysia is not a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention or the 1967 Refugee Protocol.

Sure or not penggangur? Ramai grads want 3D work or even budak kampung/rempit? If you dun study hard, sleep in school and fail all exams, want keja ofis? Even skeptical wif those so called grads with degrees and masters, ask to do something simple also need hand holding. Then kena marah a bit, throw letter. Those group who really want to work, learn other skills like mandarin, certifications in other subjects very hard to find. Main politics, curi tulang, max mc, large percentage. They do grab rider cos can wake up own sweet time, stop for smokes, makan, berak, at own expense, no supervision, earn more than factory, no need work 8 hours. Yg rajin earning 6-8k working 12 hour shifts hard to find as usual.

Statistics say we are at full employment,
As for December 2024, Malaysia's unemployment rate hit the lowest rate in nearly nine years at 3.1 percent with 544,300 unemployed.

Nice

Better sent up shop/factory in their home countries then. Excellant workers here should also be excellant workers back home

Go innvest in Rahine, Kathmandu or Dhaka. They can do 12 hour shifts easier back home

The previous govts of decades ago created this mess - creating a big class of citizens who r very choosy with jobs, & the culture of maximum profit with minimum cost practiced by employers.

Other SEA countries' citizens take up the locally available jobs eventhough the pay is not as expected. Because they've been cultured for ages to do it.

more like the employers there rather pay locals to do it
due to knowing them better and can communicate better

meanwhile employers here kept on going cheaper and cheaper labour....if free even better
until they like to abuse internship doh.gif

another thing about importing bangla that i don't understand is why are the employers not willing to pay better for locals but rather pay so much and go through so much hassle to import them in
thn after import them in..give them free accommodation, free utilities, free transportation, free food rclxub.gif
like we locals have to pay for all of those on top of income tax which they also don't have to pay

The usual complaint I hear is truancy & tardiness among locals, who hav all sorts of excuses not to come to work. But foreigners aren't at the luxury nor position to do that. Thus the daily presense of the workers is always guaranteed.

the consequence will be hard to reverse

-local vs foreigner vs refugees for job market
-bubble society
-more stringent rule
-hard to assimilation
-everyone need either speak bm / english or their language

on the good side is , we all know already

-work 3D job and fill the demand

Very soon, the Indian population will go extinct. Banglas already catching up. In 5 years they will overtake the Indian population easily. Very soon, gomen will give PR and citizenship to these people. And eventually, voting rights.
