Sharp by the way, did u place your fridge within some confined spaces? (some interior designers like to design the kitchen where the fridge is positioned in some tightly confined space) this is a big no no *lightbringer* and OldSchoolJoke liked this post

Samsung Inverter already 5 years and still going strong.
Oldest at home is the Panasonic dual door. Not as cold when new but still alive. Already 20 years. Serviced once. |

today's fridge cannot last as long as zaman dulu fridge. My ELBA Frige is 28 years old. Rosak once only after 27 years last year. Costs Rm300 to repair. anything japanese probably still reliable. Hitachi, Panasonic, etc
heard Chinese brands like Hisense, Midea - while maybe not as reliable, spare parts are readily available & cheaper if needs replacing. i use korean tho. a Daewoo inverter fridge. i think already more than 5 years, can't remember. had been repaired a couple times though, so if your criteria = nvr broken/no repairs needed at all, then probably not this one |

MIDEA is a pretty good brand. For the price, it is very good value. MIDEA knows they have to compete with many heavyweights so they made sure to give quality products. I didnt think much about MIDEA until 1 day I realised so many of my friends and relatives have midea products in their homes.... and none of them said anything bad about Midea. bigduck liked this post

QUOTE(Chadlonso @ Feb 2 2025, 11:26 AM) National cannot be used in the US because it was registered by other company. So, Matsushita Electrics started using brand Panasonic. Lat time for audio product they use brand Technic for the US market. Now almost all products sold under Panasonic brand.Well, Panasonic products are result of takeover like Quasar from Motorola. Sanyo brand is also changed to Panasonic as well. I believe the Panasonic fridge is originally Hitachi brand. If you look at its multi-door units, resembles Hitachi but just different capacity to be different. Last time I used to have Hitachi video camera which resembled the Panasonic one and it was Hitachi that released the product first. |

QUOTE(Momo33 @ Feb 3 2025, 08:19 AM) motors have warranty from 5 to 12 years as i see across the brands . I can also say if you are not lucky you get bad one. Compressor is probably made by other companies. The technology of fridge is like air-cond and they are all similar in technology (the way it works). For me I choose fridge on which interior compartments whichever practical for my need. With inverter technology, now the compressor warranty is no less than 10 yhears unlike previously and that is the most expensive part of the fridge I believe. means they a fairly reliable. as for reliability of fridges. depends also on user . stable power supply will less surges temp settings . dont overload the fridge with food items . blocking vents etc.. |

I use voltage regulator to protect the refrigerator. Make sure no voltage surge to prolong the PCB board lifespan. |

Samsung is alright as well, they can offer 20 year warranty for the inverter LG have to be careful, must avoid models with linear inverter. Got class action lawsuit in US due to this |

Sorry to hijack, can anyone recommend a simple fridge that opens from right to left? Most of those in the market opens from left to right. This is due to my cabinet design in which the fridge placement is just next to the wall. gobiomani liked this post

QUOTE(hoonanoo @ Feb 4 2025, 12:16 PM) Not really, because the allocated space is just nice for a single door fridge. I can opt for left-to-right but then there is bar table that is so close to the fridge door opening that it may be a bit uncomfortable to go in and out just to open and close the door. |

QUOTE(Chadlonso @ Feb 4 2025, 09:30 PM) If you dont mind higher electricity bill, then repairing an old non inverter fridge make sense. However repairing an inverter fridge would cost couple hundreds presumably if there's a problem with the board. A new inverter fridge probably cost between 1500-2500. I would just use my hisense 4 doors for a couple of years and dump it for a new one when it needs repairs. |

12 years is good enough i think. |

Nowadays not many look at brands but price. For >500L capacity, the Chinese brands are far cheaper. Hisense 550L is about RM2k or slightly more only. Other brands around 5k+. A relative bought one earlier last year. So cheap, can change every 2 years but I presume they will last longer.

For fridge and air con, I prefer it not to last too long. Maybe between 12-15 years. Usually these actively used appliances will start to makan elektrik gila babi after 10 years.

Looking for a fridge now. Due to space constraint, I can't get a huge fridge. I think my width is only 800mm+. Saw a 4 door Sharp which I like, but it is like 790mm...really pushing it.
Then saw Midea and Haier. Media is 750mm, seems very possible. Haier even smaller, 700mm only. What I like about these 4 doors fridge (opens in the middle), is all the freezer has individual compartment. The problem with my current Panasonic bottom freezer (2 doors, maybe more than 12 years), are all the plastic drawers has their side broken. It has started breaking like a few years into usage. Now all of them cacat (there are 4 plastic cassette containers all cacat!). I see with 4 doors, the weight of the items has been distributed and won't break so easily. If I don't choose this, I will have to choose back Panasonic bottom freezers which will have the same problem again. I prefer bottom freezer as the daily frequent use of the other items are easiar to access without bending. Any thoughts? This post has been edited by CommodoreAmiga: Nov 27 2025, 02:12 PM |

QUOTE(CommodoreAmiga @ Nov 27 2025, 02:11 PM) Looking for a fridge now. Due to space constraint, I can't get a huge fridge. I think my width is only 800mm+. Saw a 4 door Sharp which I like, but it is like 790mm...really pushing it. Just go back to 2 door panasonic.. 4 door lagi headache if the middle part of the door not close well....Ever heard simpler is better? |

I like this Sharp 4 doors fridge. For sure future problem. But i don't see how 4 doors can be worse 2, any statistic shows 4 doors fridge has problems closing? 🤔 This post has been edited by CommodoreAmiga: Nov 28 2025, 11:35 AM |

QUOTE(hirano @ Nov 28 2025, 12:02 PM) Yes, I am looking at Panasonic, Sharp and last Toshiba. No kimchi brand for me.QUOTE(shyan90's @ Nov 28 2025, 12:49 PM) To be frankly most of the people does not have drawers on panasonic...not sure yours how... Because mine is bottom freezer. Bottom freezer has crazy amount of drawers. Mine has 2 in fridge area and 2 in the freezer box. The fridge area drawers are the worst, as it is used more, first to break. I look at the new Panasonic bottom freezer fridge ...even more now...at least 6 drawers....😅Same for 4 door fridge..problem for closing and temperature not stable in upper corner is somehow true review but also gimmick... But no chouce ...I really prefer fridge area at the top, I don't have to bend so much. Freezer area only access infrequently but the fridge area is where most access happens. |

Why is this tered still ongoing though?
Regardless of what you are buying today, electrical items are designed to fail nowadays. Most of them has an electronic control board and on these board, there are the most common part that will eventually fail which is the capacitors. So yeah, don't need to look for the brands or whatever. Its just like the old carburetor vs fuel injection (ecu). |

Saw a 4 door Sharp which I like, but it is like 790mm...really pushing it. Based on my experience, I would advise that you plan carefully and if possible, get the largest capacity fridge which you can accommodate as you would never know. I was previously in your position as I bought a smaller capacity fridge (350L) based on the available space although I could actually accommodate a bigger capacity one with better optimisation of the space ie. other rack or furniture arranged properly to allow placement of a larger fridge. After living with the fridge for several years, our family figured out it's too small as we can't buy too many things or else it would be packed full, especially vegetables, fruits and other food stuff. It's better to have more available space rather than limited space. Electricity consumption may be slightly higher but in terms of convenience it is way ahead, and to me convenience takes precedence over everything else. Then saw Midea and Haier. Previously sharp also running good for 1X years before changing to a bigger hitachi model. QUOTE(GamersFamilia @ Oct 20 2025, 09:47 PM) After much searching Between a Pana 2 doors and a Sharp 4 doors with bottom freezers, today went to IPC Harvey Norman and salesman introduced a model which i have not seen before, which seems to fit ALL my requirements.https://www.hitachi-homeappliances.com/my-e...ml#PageTechspec 1. Problem of Panasonic flimsy plastic drawers - Solved. This Hitachi use soft plastic which is not rigid like the Panasonic and prone to break. Soft plastic can flex and not brittle. 2. Problem of Sharp 4 doors - the chill section for vege and meat is very small, even smaller than my current fridge. This Hitachi has very big section for vegetable and unfrozen fresh meat. And it has function to adjust one of the chill section to -3C like the Panasonic Prime+ function which is lacking in the Sharp model. Other plus points:- The shelves are longer (deeper) than the Sharp model. 5 stars Energy Efficient (I think the other 2 maybe one of them is 4 stars only) Price cantik The width of the fridge is same as the Sharp model 795mm...after much checking and measurement, i feel it is sufficient and can fit in. Maybe need to relocate one wall power socket point which i have install on one side of the wall to another side to make it easiear to put in the fridge. Not a big deal. Overall, i think this is it. Every requirement fulfilled! Hitachi here i come! At least people knew what the heck they are sharing, unlike this discussion where people shared the brand they bought but never the model. Blindly trusting a brand just because yours work great for years does not represent anything in today's world. A lot of things has changed over the years. Lots of japanese brands are actually owned by China nowadays. |
