I would recommend considering a handheld PC like the ASUS ROG Ally or the Lenovo Legion Go instead. These devices offer superior performance and full compatibility with major gaming platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Origin, GOG, and Ubisoft Connect. The Steam Deck, while popular, has known compatibility limitations with certain games.

On a related note, I currently use the original GPD Win 2 Max and am planning to upgrade to the Ryzen AI-powered ASUS ROG Strix Scar 17 (H370) for enhanced performance and capabilities.

Wait for tomorrow. Usually you can get OLED 512GB for around 2.4k (lowest being 2.3k).
As for usability, it's quite good still and highly compatible with games. However, some will require you to research a bit to setup. If you go for the windows handhelds, there will be less setup issues.

read a few reddit stories about how ally / go windows OS is their own achilles heel, steam OS maybe is that good. But yeah 2.7k is pretty steep. should be looking for 2nd hand unit maybe .

if you can tahan paying the games at original price then sure, steamdeck is very convenient but only for steam games

i got rog ally because I'm using pc game pass and the game save is synced to my desktop too to finish game pass games. But most gen 1 windows handheld has absolutely horrible battery life, except gen1.5 device like ally x

Around rm2.7k can get an used legion go, with 2 Years warranty remaining from Lenovo Malaysia. ROG ally (the original, not the x version) can get cheaper

If mau brand new, legion go S (steam os version) will be released in may 2025. Itu pun usd 500 (< rm2500)

Steamdeck is good, but not worth rm2.7k.

Steam Deco, ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go… all can konek monitor mouse keyboard like a PC, but make no mistake it has same super performance like a desktop. Kenot compare. This is good for highly portable use n gaming on the go

don bother with comments like getting the ally/ally x, or LeGo, all have their own pros and cons.

since ts only want the portability instead of docking, deck is the best choice ergonomically.

most games can play just fine despite not having steam verified badge, just checkout protondb website, some might need some tweak a bit, but mostly play just fine.

but if u care much bout game performance, ally x is the better choice. but not by much, maybe few fps. not game changing difference.

AllyX/LegionGo/windows based

Pros:
- Most games would be compatible
- Familiarity with windows

Cons:
- Navigation kinda sucks with controller for the OS afaik since it's windows
- The drivers are vendor locked, so like AllyX, if amd updates anything, have to wait for asus to push the update through their buggy armory crate

Steamdeck

Pros:
- Great ui with good navigation using the controls
- Sleep mode/suspend-resume to pause game mid-play, kinda like psp/vita/3ds
- Can try different runtimes to maximize performance, although kinda leceh

Cons:
- Not all games will be compatible, especially competitive games with anticheat
- Not as powderful as other windows based machines

Compromise
Buy AllyX/LegionGo/etc and install BazziteOS or wait for steamOS to release for those devices, install as dualboot to get the best of both worlds

i got my rog ally less than 2.2k on shopee last month

How are you liking it so far? TBH I'm only considering Steam Deck coz it's OLED and SteamOS

other than the battery life which i will mod later on, everything else is good
i previously got the steam deck oled also but sold it coz too big to carry around
u can install steamos or bazzite onto rog ally as well, i installed steam os on mine, very straight forward 15min process
if u wan better ergonomic and more comfortable to hold, go for the legion go s z1e model (come with steam os also)
im not sure the z1e version already available in malaysia or not tho, definitely dun get the z2 go version
by the way, wat games r u planning to play?
if its slightly newer title lik cyberpunk n above, then steam deck wont run
steam deck is great for indie games

while ayam still waiting for ayn thor review come out. so many ds 3ds games

yes z2 go is weaker, its on par with steam deck only so definitely not worth the price
if wan powerful then z2e but its only lik 15-20% more powerful than z1e but cost 2x

If you are used to pc gaming, you might want to try playing your existing game with controller until you realise most game are much better played with mouse and keyboard. If you got good phone with snapdragon 895 and above you can try gamehub and play steam games on your phone... it uses proton and translator to run your game like pc.
