I did exactly that. A 600+gm 14" monitor with touchscreen only cost RM 300+. It can be powered up solely using my Samsung for couple of hours. Or I could hook up a powerbank to the monitor and it also charges the Samsung simultaneously.

I would say Dex is broken but not broken by Samsung. The fact that streaming app detect and ban Samsung Dex is sad. If you ask me, I think Samsung should pioneer a deal with streaming services to allow these services usable when using Dex mode.

Do you mean YouTube and Netflix? Those work fine on S23, even in full screen.

If it works for you then it works on mine too.

Thats not the apps Im complaining about.

Samsung Dex will be useless in near future. Why? Many are not aware that Intel and AMD are doing a lot of low power things with their chips. Lunar Lake and Strix Halo are 2 good example. Samsung phones cost thousands without much refinements to these so called desktop features over the years. Soon, everyone will buy a Wintel portable gaming device and when they are not gaming, these literally turned into full fledge desktop when you connect to the HDMI.

Besides for the budget orientated, you can get 15w Intel N chip which run basically almost every office/web based applications without much problem. The size of these are more or less same with a high capacity powerbank.

I wish there are other options.

Every time when it is time to buy a new phone with something similar to DEX and Secure Folder, I ended up with another Samsung. And I usually buy after more than 6 months after launch when prices has come down.

The idea behind similar implementation like dex is one device for all and offer excellent convenient. Funny thing is they are 1 of the pioneer offering this option but throughout the year, they didn't optimize it and didn't get any meaningful partnership.

Now Intel, amd even Nvidia are trying to venture in portable device while they did nothing. If they continue to do nothing then yes it will be useless soon when people are catching up. If Intel, and n Nvidia can come out with a portable device that can do everything together with communication capabilities then it will be very interesting.

Android 15 now comes with Private Space. I don't think as secure or convenient yet compared to Secure Folder. But I am sure Private Space will improve and hopefully catch up.
