When Tunku Abdul Rahman changed his views on Malay rights

Before Merdeka, he believed Malaya should be for the Malays but he changed his perspective after independence, according to a new book.

PETALING JAYA: The nation’s first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, believed Malaya should be for the Malays but he changed his views after independence, according to a new book.

His government’s tolerance of non-Malays caused friction with Umno’s “ultras” – a term used at the time for Umno members seen to be holding staunch nationalist views.

Among the “ultras” were Dr Mahathir Mohamad, later to become prime minister twice, and Syed Jaafar Albar, known as the “lion of Umno”.

The Tunku’s more inclusive approach after Malaya gained independence was a stark contrast to his outlook before 1957, according to the book “Idealis: Syed Hamid Albar”, a biography of Syed Jaafar’s son, Syed Hamid Albar.

When the Alliance Party was formed in 1952, Tunku Abdul Rahman believed that Malaya was for the Malays and that it should not be governed by a multiracial group.

Malays must also safeguard their rights, he was reported as saying.

Their final nail on the coffin is cooking racial sentiment via UMNO. Just looked at the current state of ore kito after 60+ years.

It's not the issue of who is bad or good. History accounts what happen, why it happened. Not if it should happen or not. If the race ratio reversed, who knows if something similar will happen or not? Don't be the young and stupid used by the old and bitter.

As long as Singapore remains, Malaysia will alwyz remind the world about its racial and religious discrimination, unfair treatment and oppression of the non.

Singapore remains a thorn to Malaysia. That why these ketuanan alwyz wanna get rid of singapore, tat reminds them of their humiliating past.

In our case, we have a clear view of what would hv been if we had gotten rid of race politics so no need to keep ponder whether our race policies r the right thing

What pity? What's forced?
Many countries in the world if not all have multicultural races except you want it to be like NK a hermit country. Many Malay also migrated from Indonesia. They are not the origin too.
If you can't accept that and keep harping on races Malaysia will left behind in many ways. We all will be in losing end.
If want to talk further human originated from Africa that make us all are not origin of Malaysia.

Until ppl start realizing the " Malay " represents not the entire population but rather their own cronies , we will be still in deep shit .

Kita mesti menjaga hak bumiputera, where thousands of ppl rally, actually for the selected few. These ppl rallying truly believe these previlages , bumi etc are for all but for selected few .
