Personally for me from my experience samsung and apple has not been able to give me a "worry free / minimal worry" satisfaction as compared to Huawei, thats why Honor being previously a sub brand i am willing to consider it.
No doubt the brands that have upcoming launches are perceived to be better / premium, but personally i havent had a phone from them that lasted this long (Huawei P30) for me.
Im referring to green line, battery, phone start to lag after awhile (like maybe after 2/3 years).
I do agree with your point that I dont have to rush it, coz the freebies aren't something to shout about as well.
That being said, I would love to hear any thoughts if there is any flaws to my logic too.
Huawei was a good phone those time before they got sanctioned. Before the current phone, I got a mate 10 pro that work without problem for many years until the power button switch fall off then I changed to my current phone.
The green line problem is still ongoing for many brands like vivo, oppo, Sammy etc etc. The brand that I always heard about line problem is Sammy but I guess is because user based is very big so we keep to heard about it and no people ever calculated how many % of each brand facing this problem. Some do claim is a natural flaw of OLED display and it happened randomly to some device.
Lagging wise I think nowadays shouldn't be an issue. The soc of flagship nowadays got so powerful that it's unlikely to lag unless some bug/poor optimisation of software. Having said that, you can just go to a mall and tried all the different brand to see which 1 you prefer before proceeding. I guess the price will be very close for all major brand.
