 Telco auto renewed my contract

I have a second line under my account, my main line has no contract but my second line does.

I just checked the app and noticed the telco auto renewed my contract without any added benefits. Asked thru their support chat and they said its due to me not replying their SMS thus they will automatically renew the contract

The sim is actually being used on a 4G USB Modem WiFi and not on a phone, which is why I am not able to receive text message on it. Is there any method for me to get out of the contract without or minimal penalties?

They could've called my main line or send an email, but none. Totally rely on that sms.

I just done a quick search, it's really dirty and wrong to see this practise so prevalent in Malaysia, I know our consumer law only protect big company owner, but damn.. Everyday I find new low here.

I can't offer any solution. Hope someone with more experience can share what to do.

I think the way out is to raise with mcmc
Also there is no free device attached right?
Means you can terminate anytime withoutbpenalty

Auto renew to what contract? 2 yrs? 3 yrs?
New contract needs to be signed and acknowledged.

Better to go to their store to inquire. Customer service online sometimes know little to none.

Usually contract is signed due to purchase of phone at subsidy, if no device purchase will not need to have contract in place.

new contract needs signing, but some may have fine print stating renewal is on opt-out basis... yeah, real dirty tactic...

U can just terminate contract. Unless you still want use their service.

They can’t say if you didnt reply it’ll automatically be renewed, that’s just stupid and lazy. They need to confirm with you by exhausting every possible channels to communicate with you.

Report to mcmc first, and then if that fails, report kpdnkk

I raised a dispute on behalf of my neighbor last time, he is our senior , kana scam every week deduct rm2, rm3 by third party sms co, 1 week orange telco refund back money. 3 digits.

Open complain with MCMC online.
Be as detailed as possible in your complaint.
They have no right to renew contract or impose any product on you without your consent.

I will show fake SMS that you will never receive and lock you in 100 years contract. Your fault for not receiving them.

This is plain stupid. Contract can be extended but there should be 0 penalty for termination.
