6 more months to macmini m5. Really hope the tariff war doesn't screw up the pricing. Will be upgrading from macmini m1.

If you don't need it now, you probably won't need it then. Why wait?

I suppose I could get the M4 but the plan was M4 for mba and next refresh for Mac mini. If not M5 then M6, I guess. The only thing I'm missing that I want is 10Gbps and to a lesser extent AV1 codec.

Any 1 know that the minimum requirement for application run in external storage? 10gbps would be enough?

I'm also using 40Gbps enclosure. Acasis enclosure with Adata SX8200 Pro. Got this back in 2021. I did some speed tests. It doesn't reach 40Gbps. More info here:

Also have a 10Gbps Orico but have only tested it with a 256GB SSD. Speeds seems slow.

Just tested WD SN850X 2TB SSD in Acasis USB4/TBT3 enclosure on the mbam4. Good speeds. Same results with included tbt3 cable and Orico USB4 cable.

Not sure if getting a tbt4 enclosure will make things any faster.

The rate even faster than my internal ssd..
10gbps enclosure is budget friendly but the speed is 500mb/s i think might still ok...it same as my mac mini 2014 with 980pro nvme ssd..haha

Retested the Orico 10Gbps with my mbam4. Better write speeds than previous post with M1.

I think most, if not all, will be using the chipset. My Orico 10Gbps is Realtek RTL9210.

is 16GB ram enough or upgrade at least 24GB
my 10 years 2015 MBP 8GB ram, I wish i had 16GB

is M5 Mac Mini soon release 2026? i doubt also bcos M4 recently year just launched
*
For Mac mini M1, 16GB is nice and comfortable. Very happy that I went with this in 2021. My MacBook Air M4, I went with 32GB mainly because I want to try some larger local AI models. My kid's Air M4 is 16GB. I think 16GB is enough for normal use.

Storage for my mini M1 is 256GB only. sweat.gif Data on an ext 2TB Thunderbolt SSD. I will go with internal 512GB next round. My 2025 Airs are all 512GB.

Mac mini M5 probably next year I guess. Maybe get it in July with Back to School offer. If opportunity arises, I wouldn't mind a heavily discounted Mac mini M4 this year.
