I personally prefer AGM. Why? Cause it thrills me more to listen to music that is in accordance to the scenery or situation in the game. Take Final Fantasy as an example. Hugely influential game not only because of its story and graphics but also because of its music. Nobuo Uematsu succeeded in capturing and enticing me into the world of game music. Its like a genre by itself!! Even in other asian games like the simple yet famous MMORPG Ragnarok Online. Almost every map or every different scenery has that relaxing peaceful music. Whereas in dungeons you'll hear a more upbeat and dangerous tune.

Ive played World of Warcraft and i'm sorry to say i could barely as to hear a note from it. There was barely any music except maybe the rare times you hear birds chirping... Never once have i listened to a western game music so intently i feel like buying the album. Ok maybe there was ONCE. Command and Conquer - Hell's March, one hell of a song. Sure, the gameplays are nice, but thats about it. No catchy tunes or anything that captures your feeling.

Discuss.

PS to mod: move it to gamer's hideout if you feel inappropriate.

I whole heartedly agree on the second statement. But then again, with the mainstream nowadays, who listens to cool VGM?
Since you like abit of WGM, care to give some example? that might help some of us here who never listens to them intently or knows nuts about them.

Iwouldnt consider Star Wars tracks a game track though. Most of the numbers there are from the movie, and obviously mostly composed by the famous John Williams, its really difficult to say the tracks are bad.
As for Halo and Medal of Honor, yeah have to agree with you some tracks from there are quite catchy too.

@burgaflippinman
No sorry, ive not heard many medal of honor song yet, to tell the truth i hardly even play medal of honor lol must be spending too much time on rpgs. Will listen to them right away and get back to you ^^ like i said, recommend me some songs to make me addicted =P
As for the huge difference between western composers and uematsu synth, It really depends on the composer's style i guess. JW would prefer more classical pieces orchestra style, whereas Uematsu goes for a slightly modernized/video game-style themes. Then again, i think synths was used up to FF7 series, FF8 onwards many tracks are instrument based not crappy synths >_> Besides, most of the older tracks have been re-arranged for full orchestras. Take FF1 theme for example from crappy synthesizer to full orchestra @_@ just whoa. Blame the game industry for only being able to support midi files back then haha
