Hello,

I come across the Fibre to the Room (FTTR) Promo and I am thinking to ask for the installer to pull the "transparent fiber" to my 2nd floor study room.

1) Anyone know any reliable installer?
2) When the fiber terminated on my study room, what kind of device I needed? I have a SFP switch next to my Unifi Modem if it help.

problem is... fiber is thin and nearly invisible, ethernet is a thick cable that isnt so easy to manage

Fiber without armor sleeve protection easily got damage, once comes with the armor, its as thick as the normal cat6/7 cable

my house unifi fiber initially pulled without the armor and always disconnected due to broken fiber connection and I pay to re-pull the cable with armor sleeve, touch wood, 3 years already no problem at all

If you’re talking about FTTR like Celcom and TIME, those are using huawei specific main router and nodes.
I don’t know any FTTR installer but you can buy transparent fibre yourself and hot glue to the wall yourself. Then have a Fibre converter for RJ45, or have another switch with sfp.

Yes, I saw Celcom FTTR Promo and think to lay the fiber to my study room.

Where can I look for the transparent fibre? If the installer have it, I can ask them to supply and install, it will easier for me.

I’ve seen it available on Taobao. Problem with Celcom and TIME FTTR solution is the inability to use your own equipment, so for me I don’t think it’s worth it.

Honestly speaking the FTTR market on TB is hella confusing, you might end up buying the wrong equipment if you’re not careful

Mainly just need to ensure you get GPON variant but not sure if your OLT will even accept this ONU made for CN market

My personal opinion is just get a switch with SFP+ port and run the fiber with a SFP+ to SC Fiber converter with the super thin fiber.

Router -> Switch (Uplink on 1G/2.5G) / (Downlink to sub switch with 10G over fiber) -> AP or more switch according to your needs

Hi Danny, did you manage to figure out how to get a contractor for FTTR?

I'm currently using Business plan for my office and TIME internet doesnt provide FTTR for Business plan. cry.gif
