will a today vios a better drive from a 10-15 year old altis? or city now is better than old civic?

will b segments of today is better than C-segments of the past due to trickle down technology?

just wondering

So far i see, definitely recent models better than old ones from creature-comfort standpoint LOL.

But most of the time, upgrading to new car is a function of downpayment and monthly budget available, vs reliability required.

No prob with using older reliable (or well maintained) higher segment (C, D seg) cars.

but INEFFICIENCIES of older tech may outweight the benefits of paying RM1000 monthly to drive with peace of mind with no unforseen breakdown
(ESPECIALLY for frequent outstations)

It becomes the same; most of the time the segment re-defines itself to be much larger.

prime example: Current gen Axia (Kei-car seg) SAME SIZE as 1st gen Myvi (A-seg, B-seg to some)

Volvo Drive-E or VEA debut 2013 (R&D started 2008).
VW EA888 debut 2009 - gone through 4 major refresh, for performance + emission
Even BMW B58 debut 2015 almost 10 years. In between, the direct injection is upgraded from 200 to 350bar

For the Volvo that I familiar, a lot of old tech give signs that it is an old platform
- 250bar direct injection pressure was state of the art. Now 350bar is common.
- Still old tech aluminium block + cast iron liner. Now almost everyone use vapor deposit of silica/some propeitary alloy to replace liner.
- DLC coating on some of the high wear components, now also very common.
- Brake by wire take years of tuning from terrible to natural. Pre-2020 brake was so f....up, driven the loaner car during service (opps, don't send me for community service like Max Verstappen, lol)
- Same as EA888, burn engine oil during early version. The piston ring takes many many many many revisions to get it right.

Now that I learning more, come to think about it, Toyota is not the only one. New engine take years of R&D
Old engine block as long as continuous update is ok.

Maybe Toyota after update for new emission requirement, drop 2hp... lol...

What they done now is removing the tyre spare, remove tyre, by that reduce weight which can improve power/weight ratio, better FC.

For others example EA888, they has an upgrade each time, example from EA888 gen1 to gen 4 now, with better performance, eliminate problem faced from previous version example change to a better quality materials, and last improve emissions/FC.

But Toyota meanwhile just carryover old engine, best they can do is add in CVT gb cz cheaper price parts relatively to normal auto and better weight. Thats about it

I think Toyota did similar things. Same block but different intake manifold, different coating on cam shaft to reduce friction etc.
Still minor improvement over the time, few % on fuel economy.

Just not major upgrade like others with that meet emission + performance upgrade to align with competitors.

Pretty much almost everyone are removing spare tyres

Ill maintained in term of engine?
If chassis is intact and no rust, others can be fix/refurbish/overhaul back and still better than Vios anytime.
Toyota best thing plenty of aftermarket parts from new, oem to half-cut.

For EA888 iinm gen 3 started to gain combo gdi + port. So no more carbon deposit. Gen4 gain massive performance and potential tune upgrade.

For Japanese, last time Accord G8 facelift, they said had improve the NVH, by putting thicker interior carpet, lol. Cheapskate, though put more sound deadening insulation materials etc
