speaking from my own exp, company allowed RM 200 for phone allowance per month.. data plan only RM 98, so i get device which added another 120 totalling to 220 each month..
claim 200 from company, pay myself rm 20 each month for mobile service plus device..

Not worth.
In the end, you pay more actually.
For example if you took plan under Maxis Zerolution for 24 months. Original price of the device is RM5499 for 256GB. But if you take under Maxis Zerolution 24 months, you only pay RM4992.
This is not included with your telco plan, which the basic plan you have to sign up Maxis RM109 plan. RM109 x 24 months = RM2616.
In the end you pay RM7608. If you didn't take Maxis zerolution 24m plan, you only pay RM5499 only. You give money to Maxis around RM2109.
Do you even need high telco data if you have internet such as Times/Unifi at home?

no idea why people are doing it anyway but if they are already on the 100+ plan then it make sense if you're not on the 100+ plan then its stupid to take it back then the telco phone is more exp if you also have to upgrade to their 100+ plan then at some point, they became cheaper with a cheaper plan but now i think its back to being exp with the higher end plan i think covid time they lowered the plan req or something but the general consensus is if your current plan without the phone is 100+ then its kinda worth it if you want to get the phone if your plan is not 100+ and you upgrade to the 100+ plan and the perks are overkill for you then ur dumb dumb also, lots of people are not charsiu loser and get phone subsidy from company so they are usually already on the 100+ plan and just take the telco phone for a lower total price

Why not? I just choose the most expensive plan for cheaper phone, then claim the mobile charges to company.

It's worth it if you are a heavy telco user or you got subsidy. For most people that are light user, the more expensive plans are not worth it.

Cheaper to buy outright on EPP then upgrade your data plan price to qualify for a top tier subsidised iPhone. Telco look like they subsidise your iPhone but you’re actually subsidising yourself.

QUOTE(piscesguy @ Sep 22 2024, 02:40 PM) celcom so good ah?? last time I was with Maxis a clean 18 straight years also they never give me any discount, at last I terminated with Maxis in 2016 and go for Hotlink Prepaid. They didn’t call you meh when you cancelled? I went thru the whole process of termination (20 years account) & a few days later their CS called & offered me a package I couldn’t refuse.

People have their reason when subscribing to postpaid plan like cheaper shared line shared quota with family, cheaper roaming, maybe company allowance and other perks included like free coffee etc. As because they are on postpaid line, they also get the subsidy to buy phone with installment. Not the other way around. You are looking from buying phone only then of course it doesnt make sense to subscribe a plan you dont need.

If the phone you want is offered, and it's cheaper than outright purchasing one without contract, AND you don't plan on switching carrier, why the hell not?
