While checkups are not a guaranteed for longer life or able to screen 100%, it does allow to detect certain conditions earlier and thus better chances to take preventive or treatment. You could argue that how long we live is determined by powers above, bit with advance of medical and early detection, it provides higher living quality and better chances of survival. Anyways checkups are paid for/tax deductable so no reason to skip.
