(5) Similarly, if you managed to get money into Alipay (early adopters of Alipay in Malaysia may have a glitch where the Alipay account can receive funds directly from TnG - at least my account, it is possible). Alipay it also
charges a 3% transaction fee for purchases above RMB 200.

Hi, wanna double check, does it means that if the transaction is below RMB200 when using Malaysian CC linked to Alipay app, there will not be 3% charge by Alipay? But will still need to follow the CC exchange rate which I think will be more than the rate if using the TnG Alipay+ right?

Thanks

Anything below RMB200 will not incur 3% charge. But they will charge RMB to the card and follows the card rate.
I would suggest TnG Visa card as they have 1% cashback program at the moment.

i just came back from china

there was one transaction which was above RMB200 and there wasn't any 3% charges in my AliPay.

I linked a Bank of China UnionPay debit card to AliPay to pay.

For a limited time, UnionPay International is currently having a promo that waives all 3% charge.

back from beijing, just to share, i used wechatpay + alipay for all my expenses including transport tied to Wise (with better rate).

Cash is still accepted and they have changes for it (no worries if you are using cash).

Even though i know mandarin, there are some accents that are really hard to understand, and they may find the terms we use normally in malaysia hard to understand.
(Note: no one will discriminate or police checks on you if you are not speaking mandarin, i am using cantonese all the way for conversation with my family, and they treat me like a local unless i state otherwise)

Metro and Buses are very convenient to go anywhere, although there are alot of walking (estimate around 15k - 25k steps per day)

esim works well even at great wall area.

people are generally nice and services are great, though there is a lack of hygiene awareness where i saw many occurrences of spitting at the street.

Toilets are clean generally, though have to go to toilets at developed neighbourhood/tourist spot and not those hutongs.

Be wary of your surrounding, you never know there would be electric vehicles pop up behind or in front of you at the walkway.

there is no OTP, you have to link your card with Alipay first.
I used eSIM for map/payment/internet and worked flawlessly.

I've downloaded the ALIPAY International App and and linked my Ambank Visa and UOB Visa card.... so u r sure for every transaction won't need an OTP pin approval ? coz if we use esim therw will be no number available....
