That means DSAI didn't lie

Tesla initially did want to set up a plant in MY

But Tesla kecut bola in the last minute due to their bad sales performance

A lot of people here don’t understand those MOUs and announcements like Tesla are more like marketing our country. Some will work out and some will not. The most important is it gave publicity to our country and it gives confidence to others to invest here. All these data centres might not generate tons of jobs but it projects a good image of our country and this will attract more FDIs. It already tell investors that our water and electricity supply will be stable and sufficient compared to other SEA countries.

May 19, 2022 - Amazon Web Services To Develop Data Centres In Malaysia

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expected to shell out major investments in Malaysia this year in order to develop data centres in the country, according to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Senior Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mohamed Azmin Ali said that the government has already given AWS approval to invest In Malaysia as a data hub.

Back in March, AWS had signed a Cloud Framework Agreement (CFA) with the Malaysian government, which gave government agencies and departments access to AWS Cloud services in any of the company’s 84 Availability Zones globally. Additionally, the government signed a CFA with AWS, Microsoft, Google Cloud, and Telekom Malaysia to power the cloud computing service MyGovCloud.

On a related note, Azmin had also met with Microsoft representatives to discuss the progress of the company’s “Bersama Malaysia Microsoft” initiative. He revealed that almost 500,000 local workers have been trained with a target of over one million by next year. Microsft is set to invest US$1 billion (~RM4.4 billion) over the next five years to build its first Azure data centre region in the country.

Cyberjaya seriously need to be separated from Sepang District. Make a new district or absorb under Putrajaya or something. Sepang Municipal Council is lousy, tak jaga kawasan.

Especially at night. The street lights there are usually spoiled. The worse is the traffic lights. Always out of order after heavy rain

Solar power could generate 54X more profits than palm oil — Maybank. Large-scale solar ventures (LSS) will allow palm oil producers to generate up to 54 times more operating profits per hectare compared to oil palm, Maybank Investment Bank flagged.4 Jun 2024

Yeap ~
https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/now-open-a...alaysia-region/

Meaning it had already setup it's DC in Malaysia.
I'm guessing a joint venture with some local DC player here by leveraging local DC infrastructure first.

picked from Facebook:
We have done some benchmarks to compare Malaysia vs other regions and it is so exciting for us to share the finding:
1. Cost Efficiency: We found that the EC2 shared instances is 13-17% cheaper compared to SG region (we randomly select t4g.nano and c7g.large), and Aurora is 17% cheaper than SG region!
2. Ultra-Low Latency: From our testing, the ping time is 38% faster than SG and 82% faster than HK.
We also deployed a dummy web, it is 5.2% faster than SG and 51% faster than HK
3. Data Sovereignty: Keep your data local and secure while meeting all compliance and regulatory requirements seamlessly. Especially for financial services, healthcare and government services.

https://press.aboutamazon.com/2024/8/aws-la...ion-in-malaysia

"The construction and operation of the new AWS Region is estimated to add approximately $12.1 billion (MYR 57.3 billion) to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) and will support an average of more than 3,500 full-time equivalent jobs at external businesses annually through 2038. These jobs, including construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and others within the country’s broader economy, will be part of the AWS supply chain in Malaysia."
