BTW whats the problem with helium HDD? IINM its what they used for high capacity enterprise/indsutry HDD

Yes it can, slowly over time. biggrin.gif
After all, harddisk is just harddisk, the valuable part is the data stored in it, so have some kind of backups that you feel comfortable. Everything have chance to go south.

helium leak fast when non industrial cooled environment.. i had a few 16TB ironwolf pro overheat( properly monitored server room) after 3yr due to excess helium leak.. ask the seagate guy n then baru realise y those big data centre facing cooling issue now..

nothing it fully sealed at molecular level.. helium being the smallest atomic component. it will go thru any structure overtime.. when u not properly cooled it. the gap between the metal expand due to heat generated..

ever wonder y big data centre hv to try many ways to cool .. like intel tried submerged in the seaflood

Thats really bad news seeing how much capacity they have so if the HDD dies all the TB of data goes along.

Ahh no wonder I do see refurb/2nd hand enterprise drive like Ironwolf are sold at really good prices.

some can refill helium.. but recently 1 cant refill

tat y u see every 3 4yr data centre will replenish the hdd
