Badminton, hockey, diving, football… all these popular sports are damn hard to nail that elusive first gold for Malaysia. We will never measure up against the traditional powerhouses unless Kingston Lee grows up and start activating his genes and start beastinv at the games but that’s for another day

I see a lot of people creaming in their pants when squash gets introduced in the next Olympics in LA, but let’s be honest, stop living in the past coz Nicol has retired long time ago

But,

If sepak Takraw is inducted into Olympics I think we may stand a chance of getting gold…. But hold the wank….

Some context here. To be inducted in Olympics, the sport must be popularly played in 70 countries across 3 different continents…

Currently there are 54 sepak Takraw associations around the world and we need 16 more countries to play that sports.

How many more years before we can achieve that number?

No hope. ISTAF didn't even try. But on the bright side, if takraw get included at least bronze at hand. Thailand is still king.

Depends if angmoh like it or not. Normally, they tend to pursue sports which they are familiar with like tennis is popular there so pickleball gaining popularity was only a matter of time. Just see how pickleball rose to stardom so quickly and you have people playing it here in Msia too

Ayam won't be surprised if pickleball gets into the Olympics before sepak takraw

in order for a sport to be inducted in olympics, for men need the sport to play across at least 4 continent and women at least 3 continent.

Sports need effort from the federation to grow, it won’t evolve if people just sit on their arses everyday

I have seen a lot of people kudaing with pickleball on social media than seeing real sepak Takraw posts… so it won’t surprise me if that happens

Malaysia really stupid only rely on badminton for medals

You see Singapore got gold from swimming

Indon now got gold from rock climbing

Malaysia too much focus on badminton until tunnel vision

Didnt even bother to try other sports confirm to be in olympics

Only go round beg squash beg takraw topkek go train other sports first lah

But in sepak takraw, Malaysia is known as the top 3 nations to play that game

We are like Brazil of sepak takraw!

Our gomen will only fund and develop talent in sports where we've had past track record of being successful. Only after you berjaya, will the money start flowing in to develop and improve talent.

That's just sad but nothing much we can do about it.

On a serious note, someone mentioned rock climbing.

Competitive rock climbing isn’t a fcking thing back 30 yrs ago…but yet the sport has grown rapidly over the decades and gets in ahead of Takraw.

Rock climbing was a very niche sport that only your adrenaline junkies would go after. I think its popularity skyrocketed after Alex Honnold's Free Solo documentary and this translated to the rise of popularity in bouldering. Now, you'll have so many bouldering gyms around.

It's inclusion in the previous Olympics only further propelled it into the mainstream

If Breaking can be an Olympic sport, then Takraw is long overdue

We are current reigning world champion in that sport

Get real la. The budget allocated for the sport ministry isn’t enough to cover everything. And a big chunk goes to football & badminton. Even if we have a Joseph schooling amongst us capable of winning an Olympic gold, there’s not enough or dare I say it, no talent scout in the country to spot them. Unless a parent is willing to sacrifice & get their children trained overseas.

Must pandai pick certain sports see got lubang or chance to win or not, macam Pinoy, Sinkie and Indon..

Just make sure don't be like Vietnam.

Sweep all Gold for athletics in SEA games but so what, when the time comes to compete with the big boys...

i remember during the last olympics in tokyo i got write a post that we should focus on other sports to get our first gold medal in olympics instead of the usual badminton, cycling, diving etc sports, but that time many /k armchair experts blasted me and say we should focus on those core sports and not waste money and time on other sports so that we dont 'lose focus'

and look at where we are now , and now many average malaysians who watched this current paris olympics and saw many weird sports that is being competed and how other ASEAN countries and our neighbours winning gold in those sports and now many have said why not focus on those sports instead of the usual badminton/cycling/diving

and the funniest part is for this olympics, we have 3 chances to win gold medal in badminton for MD, WD and MS categories, we spent 1 hour cheering, shouting and risking having heart attack watching pearly/thiinah for their semis match, then do the same for aaron/soh and LZJ semis match, and then they all lost

and then we spent another 1 hour cheering, shouting and risking having heart attack watching pearly/thiinah for their bronze medal match, then do the same for aaron/soh and LZJ bronze medal match, and in the end we got 2 bronzes for badminton, in total most malaysians spent like 6 hours watching all the malaysian semis/bronze medal badminton matches, many ppl shout until voice also no more for 2 bronze medals

and guess what? the indonesian climber won his gold medal in like 5 seconds?

Vietnam strong in athletic if in ASEAN, but in the world they need to fight with Africans and Carribeans.
