Cameron Highlands council demolishes Santorini-inspired attraction

The Cameron Highlands District Council (CHDC) demolished an illegal Santorini-inspired tourist attraction yesterday because it did not get approval from the authorities.



According to a post on its Facebook page, the CHDC said the enforcement action carried out against Cameron Santorini was done in accordance with Section 70 (1) Construction without Approval under Act 133 of the Roads, Drains and Buildings Act 1974.

Why demolish instead of apply, review, renovate & pay fine?

then everyone will do the same, no need to get approval, or maybe not approve cause structure will be over the allocated height/size and destroy the natural habitat, etc

Safety issue. If use substandard items to build, could collapse and injured ppl.

I think doing this will encourage people to break the law (not getting approvals before building), because the penalty *if caught* is not severe enough especially un the case of time-sensitive projects.

I think this is most likely the reason. Since the construction is RC, there is no way to verify that the materials used to cast the structure is up to standard. Hence there is no chance for review whatsoever.

don't demolish first. Just stop them from operation until application approve.
